NBA Unrivaled? Tecmo Getting Into NBA Gaming

Kotaku has some info on an upcoming 360/PS3 downloadable game called NBA Unrivaled.

"NBA Unrivaled will be a new option for players looking for an NBA video game alternative.

A bottom-of-the-press-release surprise from Tecmo today was the news that the publisher is backing an NBA game, NBA Unrivaled for PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade later this year.

Tecmo joins a field currently occupied by EA and Take Two's NBA Live and NBA 2K series, respectively, though only Tecmo's game is announced as download-only."

Obviously I don't know if the game will be any good or not, but I love the fact that they can freely make a NBA game because NBA didn't sell out to some silly exclusive licenses deals.

I wonder if this will be based on their Tecmo NBA Basketball series from the NES/SNES days?

The SNES version was my go-to basketball game for a long time until EA revolutionized things with NBA Live '95.

Awesome. It's good to see that the NBA cares about it's fans and is willing to let anyone willing to fork out the cash develop a game. Competition breeds innovation. That can only be looked at as a positive for fans of sporting games.

It was my favorite nba game for a long time on Snes. Loved it!
