Re: Long Island Conquest - a New York Jets Dynasty (NFL HC 09)
Getting Started
SpoilerI start out by picking the Patrios Air Strike playbook for offense, and the LeBeau Zone Blitz playbook for defense. I still want a pass-based offense, but not the same as my Broncos dynasty. As for defense, I wanted to try a 3-4 scheme, and Dick LeBeau is the king of the 3-4, so I chose his playbook. Luckily for me, the Jets are already a 3-4 team, so I'll probably have some good personal for the job.
Here are the philosophies:
QB: Balanced
HB: Power
FB: Blocking
WR: Balanced
TE: Playmaker
OL: Balanced
DL: 3-4
LB: 3-4
DB: Prototype
K: Balanced
P: Balanced
Now I'll introduce you to my awful staff.
HC: Christian Eftaxias (13)
OC: Brian Schottenheimer (35)
DC: Bob Sutton (17)
STC: Kevin O'Dea (4)
QBC: Brian Daboll (23)
RBC: Jimmy Rayne (62)
WRC: Noel Mazzone (29)
OLC: Mike Devlin (5)
LBC: Jim Herrmann (47)
DBC: Jerome Henderson (****ING 1 OVR!!!)
DLC: Dan Quinn (13)
GM: Guy Torrent (60)
Trainer: Ed Scott (14)
In short, upgrades need to be made.
Next I am prompted to franchise tag someone. I have no standout FAs, but I end up tagging 81 ovr FS Eric Coleman. If I can't trade him, I'll just release him.
Here were the other players franchised:
Bears franchise WR Bernard Berrian
Panthers franchise RT Jordan Gross
Steelers franchise LG Alan Faneca
Seahawks franchise CB Marcus Trufant
Patriots franchise WR Randy Moss
Bengals franchise LG Stacy Andrews
Then I get my season goals. They are to find an 85 ovr or higher RT, TE, and ROLB. Sadly, I only have 21.7M in cap space, so I won't be making any FA signings.
Here is my pre-offseason roster

QB: Kellen Clemens and his 88 potential are good news. I'll probably role with him as my starting QB. Chad Pennington and his 9M cap penalty are not good news. He's gettin' the boot.
RB: Thomas Jones is solid.
WR: I'm paying too much for mediocre WRs.
TE: Chris Baker is awful, but I never use TEs.
T: LT D'Brickashaw Ferguson is a beast in the making, while I have no RT as of now.
G: Nothing great a either G position. Brandon Moore has a 5M cap hit and is only 74 ovr...ugh...
C: Nick Mangold is a beast.
DE: Shaun Ellis is solid, but his 7.5M cap hit is brutal considering he's only 80 ovr.
DT: Kris Jenkins is an absolute beast in real life, but the game only gives him an 84...oh well. I'm also stuck paying former 1st round bust 68 ovr Dewayne Robertson a 10.8M yearly salary. He's gotta go.
OLB: Mediocre, over-paid.
MLB: David Harris is solid, Eric Barton on the other hand is not.
CB: Darrelle Revis is a beast, and for some reason, Justin Miller is an 81 ovr with an 86 pot...hmn. I'm stuck paying David Barrett a 4.2M salary to sit on the bench. He's is also gettin' the proverbial boot.
S: Kerry Rhodes is a beast, and I'll probably move Abram Elam to SS, who is solid.
K: Nugent is great.
P: Graham is great, but at 34 years old, he's gonna leave soon.
I will probably end up releasing more than half my roster during the year in favor of cheap, expiring contracts.
As I said earlier, I'm not making any FA signings because of my low cap, but I did make a trade, which was for RT Mark Wilson (86). I'd never even heard of the guy, but at 86 ovr, I complete a season goal. Even better was that I only had to trade Laveranues Coles, Leon Washington, and a 2009 6th rounder. Quite the bargain.
Anyway, here are some of the top FA signings.
DT Albert Haynesworth (92) signs 5 yr 56M deal with Chiefs
CB Asante Samuel (88) signs 5 yr 43M deal with Dolphins
CB Nnamdi Asomugha (89) signs 5 yr 41M deal with Bengals
ROLB Lance Briggs (90) signs 5 yr 50M deal with Saints
RE Justin Smith (90) signs 3 yr 26M deal with Broncos
FS Eugene Wilson (84) sign 3 yr 23M deal with Bengals
ROLB Terrell Suggs (89) signs 3 yr 23M deal with Patriots
LT Flozell Adams (86) signs 1 yr 5.4M deal with Lions
FS Ken Hamlin (88) signs 4 yr 16M deal with Bills
HB Shaun Alexander (84) signs 4 yr 24M deal with Broncos
LE Antwan Odom (85) signs 4 yr 28M deal with Buccaneers
CB Randall Gay (84) signs 4 yr 19M deal with Chiefs
HB Michael Tuner (83) signs 4 yr 21M deal with Falcons
ROLB Karlos Dansby (85) signs 4 yr 22M deal with Bengals
ROLB Kawika Mitchell (84) signs 4 yr 18M deal with Bills
WR Isaac Bruce (84) signs 1 yr 5.4M deal with 49ers
FS O.J. Otogwe (84) signs 4 yr 10.5M deal with Giants
So yeah. That's basically it. Up next, the NFL Draft.

Re: Long Island Conquest - a New York Jets Dynasty (NFL HC 09)
Yeah, the Lions' staff has that kinda quality.
Everything looks good so far. I'd take Chris Long if he gets there. Top notch end. Or Keith Rivers.
Coles and Crotchery can be a good 2 and 3 receiver, but you need a #1. Man, you have a stacked secondary. Now if you could get some guards...Last edited by rdnk; 07-06-2009, 04:37 PM.Comment

The team is like beast, rubbish, beast, rubbish lol
If you want Rivers be careful no1 jumps past you, like New England.Comment

Re: Long Island Conquest - a New York Jets Dynasty (NFL HC 09)
I'm looking at Keith Rivers at number 6. I really hope no one jumps me, because I don't have the fire power to assert myself in position to get him for sure.
I had 94 ovr Champ Bailey, 91 ovr Nnamdi Asomugha, 87 ovr Craig Steltz, and 88 ovr John Lynch in my Broncos dynasty, and still had one of the worst pass defenses in the league.Last edited by phenomenal_waffles; 07-06-2009, 06:20 PM.Comment

Good job on not signing any big-name free agents, makes it more realistic. And just a question, has anyone had a franchise where Randy Moss hasn't been franchise taged? It seems like he's always tagged.Edmonton Oilers Fan

Re: Long Island Conquest - a New York Jets Dynasty (NFL HC 09)
Well to be honest, it wasn't even a house rule for me not to sign anyone. If you read my Broncos' dynasty, in year 1 I signed Nnamdi, Haynesworth, and Briggs. I didn't sign anyone this year because I couldn't afford to. Also, I haven't seen Moss not franchised before either.
I will post the Draft later today.Last edited by phenomenal_waffles; 07-07-2009, 07:29 AM.Comment

Re: Long Island Conquest - a New York Jets Dynasty (NFL HC 09)
2008 Draft
SpoilerBefore the draft, I managed to make a few trades. The first was not much, but the 49ers offered a 2009 7th round pick for Brad Smith. Smith is just awful, so it was an easy trade. The second was trading Erik Coleman to the Vikings for a 5th round (145th) pick and a 2009 7th. I have the majority of my roster on the trading block, and I'm accepting all offers that come my way.
So here are my picks for the draft:
1.6
2.36
4.99
4.110 (f/NO)
5.134
5.143 (f/MIN)
6.165
7.196
And here is a recap of round 1:
1. Dolphins: Jake Long, LT, Michigan
2. Rams: Matt Ryan, QB, Boston College
3. Broncos: Ryan Clady, LT, Boise St.
Falcons trade 3rd overall pick to Broncos for the 12th overall 2009 1st round picks
4. Raiders: Chris Long, RE, Virginia
5. Chiefs: Joe Flacco, QB, Delaware
6. Jets: Keith Rivers, ROLB, USC
7. Patriots: Leodis McKelvin, CB, Troy
8. Ravens: Glenn Dorsey, DT, LSU
9. Bengals: Sedrick Ellis, DT, USC
10. Saints: Darren McFadden, RB, Arkansas
11. Bills: Derrick Harvey, LE, Florida
12. Falcons: Gosder Cherilus, RT, Boston College
13. Panthers: Mike Jenkins, CB, USF
14. Bears: Jerod Mayo, LOLB, Tennessee
15. Patriots: Rashard Mendenhall, HB, Illinois
Lions trade 15th overall pick to Patriots for 2nd (62nd), 3rd (94th), and 2009 1st round draft picks
16. Cardinals: Chris Williams, LT, Vanderbilt
17. Chiefs: Jeff Otah, RT, Pittsburgh
18. Texans: Branden Albert, LG, Virginia
19. Eagles: Vernon Gholston, ROLB, Ohio St.
20. Buccaneers: Aqib Talib, CB, Kansas
21. Falcons: Antoine Cason, CB, Arizona
Redskins trade 21st overall pick to Falcons for 7th (217th) and 2009 1st round picks
22. Cowboys: Sam Baker, LT, USC
23. Steelers: Domonique Rodgers-Cromartie, CB, Tennessee St.
24. Titans: Duane Brown, LT, Virginia Tech
25. Seahawks: Felix Jones, RB, Arkansas
26. Jaguars: Lawrence Jackson, LE, USC
27. Chargers: Kenny Philips, SS, Miami
28. Cowboys: Kentwan Balmer, DT, North Carolina
29. 49ers: Philip Merling, RE, Clemson
30. Packers: Chris Johnson, HB, Eastern Carolina
31. Rams: Tracy Porter, CB, Indiana
32. Bills: Brandon Flowers, CB, Virginia Tech
Dolphins trade 32nd overall pick to Bills for 2nd (41st), 4th (111st), and 5th (142nd) round picks
That was quite a 1st round. I don't understand why the Broncos traded up to #3 for Ryan Clady...they could've had him at #12. Also, I don't think I've ever seen Matt Ryan go to the Rams. And on top of that, Vernon Gholston slipped all the way to the Eagles at #19. Anyway, on to my pick. Keith Rivers, absolute beast. He won DPoY in my Broncos dynasty, and is highly touted on the forums. A unanimous pick here, even my GM wanted him.
In round 2, I would pick at #36. My GM wanted Devin Thomas. While he has a good comparison (Braylon Edwards), and WR is a need, I went elsewhere, choosing Calais Campbell. Another absolute beast. His 18 sacks in my Broncos dynasty were enough to win me over to pick him again. Later at #57, the Dolphins were looking to trade down. I managed to only have to trade MLB Eric Barton and MLB Brad Kassell, an amazing deal considering that I basically traded a pile of sh*t for a 2nd round pick. My GM wanted DeSean Jackson, who was compared to Santana Moss, and I agreed to select him. That would conclude Day 1.
Onto Day 2, the Falcons were shopping their 3rd round pick (86th) . After some negotiating, I managed to trade Ben Graham, a 4th round pick (99th), and a 2009 7th round pick. Ben Graham is a great punter, but at age 34, I would have to shop him sooner or later. With #86, my GM wanted Steve Slaton, a beast in real life, but with a comparison to Aveion Cason, I'll pass. Instead I chose Dre Moore, who has a bad comparison, but I've heard he's awesome on the forums, and I see him being picked in many dynasties.
In round 4, I tried to find a way to trade up, but without losing my 4th rounder (110th). I traded with the Dolphins again, sending 5th (134th), 2009 4th, and 2009 5th round picks for Miami's 4th rounder (97th). I wanted to grab both Craig Steltz and Mario Manningham with #97 and #110 if I could. My GM agreed with me, as he too wanted Steltz and Manningham at #97 and #110 respectively. Smart guy.
In round 5, I picked at #145. My GM wanted TE Jacob Tamme, compared to Alex Smith, and I said f*ck TEs. I didn't see anyone to die for, so I traded down with Carolina, who gave me 2009 5th and 7th round picks.
In round 6, at pick #165, my GM wanted HB Tim Hightower, who was compared to Kenton Keith. No thanks. Once again, I wasn't too interested in the players available, so I traded with Buffalo, who gave me three 7th rounders, #209, #212, and #215.
In round 7, at #196, my GM wanted none other than Tim Hightower. I once again declined, and chose HB Xavier Omon, who was compared to Deuce McAllister. At #209, my GM wanted Hightower still, and I yet again declined. I chose MLB Jeremy Leman instead. His comparison (Tedy Bruschi), isn't exactly anything special, but in my Broncos dynasty, he nearly won DRoY, so I'll take that. Three picks, later, my GM STILL WANTED HIGHTOWER!!!! HOW DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND I'M NOT GONNA PICK HIM!!! I chose Tony Bake, who was another beast in my Broncos dynasty. My final pick was at #215...and my GM wanted Hightower yet again. I decided to trade with Oakland, who gave me #223 and a 2009 6th. At #223...my GM wanted...GASP!!! TIM HIGHTOWER!!! I declined yet again, and chose Lex Hilliard, who was compared to Michael Turner. That would conclude the draft.
My UDFAs were:
CB Johnathan Whilite (Charles Tillman)
ROLB Geno Hayes (Takeo Spikes)
FS Marcus Griffen (Michael Griffen)
TE Mike Peterson (Antonio Gates)
HB Jamaal Buckingham (Marion Barber)
Here is a recap of my draft:
1.6: ROLB Keith Rivers (Derrick Brooks)
2.4: RE Calais Campbell (Osi Umenyiora)
2.25: WR DeSean Jackson (Santana Moss)
3.22: DT Dre Moore (I forget the comparison lol...the first name was Russell)
4.1: SS Craig Steltz (Roy Williams)
4.14: WR Mario Manningham (Chad Johnson)
7.4: HB Xavier Omon (Deuce McAllister)
7.17: MLB Jeremy Leman (Tedy Bruschi)
7.20: RE Tony Bake (Aaron Schobel)
7.31 HB Lex Hilliard (Michael Turner)
and here are next year's picks:
1
2
3
5 (f/CAR)
6 (f/OAK)
7 (f/SF)
7
7 (f/CAR)
I thought I had a great draft. A lot of these guys I know for sure will be great after having them in my Broncos dynasty. Up next, training camp/pre-season.Last edited by phenomenal_waffles; 07-07-2009, 08:37 AM.Comment

Good luck with Peterson, I never got him to develop. I'd try to trade for a top notch TE, one who can block and catch.Comment

Your GM must have REALLY wanted Hightower. Also surprised that Clady went at 3, McFadden at 10, Ryan at 2 and Gholston at 19. The Rams always seem to take Gholston.Edmonton Oilers Fan

2008 Training Camp/Preseason
SpoilerAfter I get my new batch of season goals, one of them is to trade for TE Desmond Clark, but then right after I exit the menu, it says I failed the goal. So they give me a goal, but don't give me a chance to complete it...hmn...its okay though, I wouldn't have done the goal anyway.
Here were my pre-season games:
Won 19-0 against Browns
Lost 34-3 to the Redskins
Lost 45-7 to the Giants
Lost 28-3 to the Iggles (lol NFC East)
Yeah...it was a tough pre-season. Not only that, but Kellen Clemens got injured, and might miss week 1. Ugh...
I get my new season goals, and they are as follows:
Crush the Dolphins in week 1
Beat the Chargers on MNF in week 3
Win 3 out of first 4 games
Re-sign Kerry Rhodes
Re-sign Mark Wilson
Win DRoY with Keith Rivers
Hire one of the college coaches at the end of the season
Have an approval of 75 or more by the end of the season
Those all seem manageable. I don't think I'll resign Kerry Rhodes, because I have his successor in Craig Steltz. Dunno about Mark Wilson though. We'll have to see the cash he demands.
Anyway, here is my roster:

As you can see, I got rid of all the excess sh*t on my team, and replaced them all with expiring contracts. Right now I have 33.04M in cap space, and next year, once all these expiring contracts are up next, year, I'll most likely have 40M+ in space left next year, pending incentives. Maybe next year I'll actually be able to sign some FAs.
For the most part, I'm pleased with the progress of my rookies. But you'll notice one player who's missing from my roster: Tony Bake. I dunno what happened. At first, his ovr pot wasn't going any higher than 68, so I thought, okay, I guess Bake can't play 3-4 end, so I moved him to OLB, where he was even worse. At the end of pre-season, his ovr was 56, so I had to cut him. I guess the 3-4 isn't his fit. Its a shame I had to cut him.
Also, I got the John English draft class. Hooray.
So for the 1st game of the season, I head to Miami to face the Dolphins. Coming off their 1-15 season, I'll be ashamed if I can't beat them. Their team is pretty awful. Their starting rookie Brian Brohm at QB, but besides him and Ronnie Brown, they have no offense. Their best receiver is 85 ovr Donte Stallworth, but their second best is 65 ovr Wesley Plue. But they do have Jake Long. They have absolutely no one on defense except for Jason Taylor and Asante Samuel. Players of notice out for them this week are only LG Reuben Brown, and in his place they're starting a 69 ovr. This should be a rout. Out for me is just Kellen Clemens with a sprained elbow, and he might even miss week 2 as well. So, I'll have to roll with Chad Pennington.Comment

Re: Long Island Conquest - a New York Jets Dynasty (NFL HC 09)
I'd keep Rhodes as your FS, and trade the other guy. That, or just wait for the contracts to make your decision.
You should beat the Dolphins. Your have the QB they used this year.
