RTG is garbage?

List of reasons why:

1. Took 5 * recruit to Ohio State cause we are a traditional running team...oh but not in NCAA 10....ive had games where i get 9 carries. What is that junk?

2. The play calling is attrocious to say the least...in the 4th quarter we are up by 3 TD's and the computer is still calling 4 vertical. Speaking of 4 vertical it seems the computer also loves to keep picking this play over and over again. Not to mention calling 4 vertical from the 1 yard line instead of just punching it in!

3. The screen playes dont work...i dread seeing a HB screen play called. The option is a joke too, if the computer does pitch it your almost assured to lose yardage and when your wide open for a big gain he never pitches it.

4. The blocking is the worst i ahve ever seen...many times defenders warp off blocks to tackle you. Also i see the lineman in the second level blocking....that great except for they leave me to get gang tackled behind the line of scrimmage lol. The holes close up faster than melted butter dripping off a knife. I could go on and on about this subject its totaly broken.

I play my dynasty games on AA...why is varsity in RTG so screwed up? Not to mention its pretty sad with the screwed up blocking, the totaly redundant play calling...and the totally silly errors in the decision making. For a mode that is suppossed to be geared tward me i have never been so frustrated at NCAA untill i tried the RTG mode this year. Im sure things are a bit better in the higher difficulty but if i am getting nailed behind the LOS now i wont even bother with AA or Hiesman. Total garbage IMO...

Ohio State is going to a spread this year with Terrelle Pryor at the helm. Should have gone to a team that will really pound the rock like GT.

The playcalling does suck, which is why I audible almost every down.

But I am only playing RTG until named rosters come out so I can start my dynasty. You're absolutely right, the mode is garbage.

1. Couldn't tell you. My 5* RB went to BYU and I see an average of 20 carries a game.

2. I agree but it has always been this way so to me it isn't a big deal.

3. I have a lot of success with screen passes. Options on the other hand are broken in RTG.

4. Again I play on BYU and so far the blocking has been great. Took my first carry of the season 50+ yards for the score. I have been playing on AA.

Don't know what to tell you man. Maybe try with a different team or something.

RTG is innovative and I love the new interface. I would love to be a RB knowing that I'll get less carries it only means that I would have to cherish every play and make the most of every ball coming my way. Once they tweak the screens, this mode would be perfect. Props for whoever worked on this mode.

It's been this way forever, they didnt really change anything ffrom last year except the name and adding Erin Andrews.

I couldn't get my auto named rosters to carry over to RTG AFTER the high school championship

I was the only named guy in the world lol

If I add myself as a player into the rosters and then choose an existing toon for RTG I don't get the cool new stuff with Erin big hair Andrews

Anyway to auto name the rosters AFTER you sign with a school? I did the auto naming BEFORE and it worked for HS but not College

You have to have the QTR Length set in your NCAA Settings before you start your RTG.

For some reason I have always found this and superstar mode on madden really boring. Last gen superstar mode from madden 06 was fun cause you could go to barbers or go get tatoos and stuff lol

I like RTG (also like superstar mode in madden) despite both of their obvious flaws. I just like the concept of it I guess. Hopefully Ian and the madden team will do a superstar overhaul for 2011.


Is it impossible to return kicks in RTG? My coach refuses to put me as return man even though I'm rated higher than the people above me (rated 98 on the kick return screen as opposed to 93 above me). And I'm only the nickel corner, its not like the coach can't afford to use me on special teams (I'm a baller on kick coverage). Has anyone been able to get their "student athlete" to be kick returner yet, or is this literally impossible? Can any developers confirm or deny this?

Also, is there anyway I can change that stupid sideline camera angle they give you on special teams plays? Especially that major zoomed out sideline camera they use on punts and field goals. Its really hard to try and take proper angles when your viewing the game from that POV

I agree. I really don't like the mode, though I've already completed a full season of it with my QB. I audible 99% of the time. Year 1 I was heisman candidate but I chose auburn (just to start) and playing in the SEC with their awful defense cost me three games and the trophy. Anyway, I dread the playcalling. There are limited things I can do when I get the same hb screen, wr reverse, etc. every 3 plays. Also, the cpu calls the wildcat type play where my qb is at wr at least 5 times a game. I've had it go positive maybe once in a full season. It's just like a wasted play every time it comes up. As WR, I can't audible the play so I just have to take the loss.

I think looking at Erin Andrews and her hot self improves the mode and hearing from Herb is pretty entertaining and stayed fresh for the majority of the season. But there are no ground level improvements to the mode, which is why as soon as the named rosters come out, I'll never touch it again. The mode needs to be redone. As do many things about NCAA. Is it garbage? No. Are there issues? Of course. Several. But it's playable for me - well, for the week

Don't believe you can. There's two situations that I've come across when involving kick/punt returning. One is I'm a WR in RTG and my guy is on the hands team for onside kicks. Unfortunately, the cpu kicks onside kicks the exact same way every single time so I never get to the ball. The other is from 09 and I was a defensive player (can't remember which position). My guy was blocking for the returner so I got to be on the field during punts, not kickoffs though. Normally if you pull a player close enough to where the ball will land, the returner will run away, but in whatever the hell the mode was called last season, the guy just stands there. What I did was block the ball and forced a muff. From there I could pick it up and run, lol.

As for RTG being garbage, well I agree. It gets boring, reptitive, there's no reason to practice once you get first on the depth chart, keeping you grade up is absurdly easy, and I'm tired of the ****ing HB screen being called. Like many others, I'm waiting for the rosters so I can start my dynasty already.

Ohh yeah, with all that said, Erin is a fantastic upgrade!

Hopefully they keep improving it.

I have never adjusted the quarter length this year as it's always 5 minutes regardless of what I have it set for before I start. I also change it to my dynasty settings/sliders...
