NHL 10 Controls And Strategy Thread...

I'm creating this thread so that we can discuss issues we are having with controls. Are you shooting wide to often??? Can't score? Don't know know how to play proper D? Well, come here and discuss...

Is it possible to get a listing of the NHL 10 control scheme from someone??? I've seen it discussed in the threads where Flyer and Chase have given their impressions.

Would it be possible to tell us the controls??? Because I returned 09 after only 2 months, so I'm totally cold on what they are after playing 2k8 for the last year.

Re: NHL 10 Controls And Strategy Thread...

Scoring is a problem for me.

I average about 1.5 goals per game. I know two of the problems I have right off the bat. First off, many times I get a bit freaked out when I have a decent chance for a shot on goal...and I don't take the time to aim my shot. If the object of the game was to hit the goalie square in the logo...I'd be a champion.

Secondly...I have a tough time keeping the puck in the offensive zone. Seems as though I get one shot off, and the cpu is headed back up ice again. My fore checking is very weak. Normally the cpu has little problem beating me to the puck deep in it's end. Sometimes I think All-Star level is bit too much for me...but I just believe All-Star is a more realistic playing game level.

The good thing about my problems is, that it's a "Me" thing...instead of a game thing. I need to gain more experience with the NHL game, and up my personal skill level. It's a fun challenge to see myself slowly improve my play.

Might help to use the create a play feature to set up simple cycles in the offensive zone (I think 08 has it, I know 09 does) for example setting up down low behind the net, then triggering it with the puck behind the net while the two wingers crash the net for a pass/rebound chance. Or even a simple forecheck strategy change to move forwards further into the zone to apply pressure after an initial shot. I believe Catcatch has a bunch of create a plays up on youtube as well that might give you a better idea of ways to get your teamates moving in the offensive zone while we wait for the improved team mate AI in 10

One idea I've heard from friends is to allow you to customize the controls.

Yep Realmk...'08' has the create-a-play feature. I'll check out what Catcatch has on Youtube as soon as I get a chance. Thanks for the heads up.

I need some tips on playing D with my BAP. Also if anyone has info on the controls. I feel like I am in the right positition but I am just pressing buttons. I know R1 is for the stick and L1 blocks passing lanes, R1+L1 dives but when do I use these? Also, when an offensive player is crowding my goalie, should I check him or what? Last night I was doing that and sometimes I wouldn't get called for a penalty, but once I was called for unnecessary (something). He was standing there and I was trying to push him away but I was called for some kind of unnecessary roughing penalty (cant remember exactly what it was). Any tips would help. I like hockey but I have never really learned the in and outs of each positition.

One thing: Does the R-stick still double as way to hit people? I thought that was changed in a patch last year. I go to shoot/swipe at the puck and I end up pushing guys like I'm picking a fight or something. (Rented the game; don't have the manual.)

Yes, but they seem to have fixed the in front of the net problem where you would throw a hit on a guy instead of swiping at the puck. So far, it seems smart enough to know when I'm going for the puck vs hitting, at least offline. I haven't tried online yet, sometimes when you factor lag in there still may be problems. Not sure yet.

Thanks. It happened once where I went to grab a rebound and ended up belting the defenseman in the head. Haven't seen it other than that one time, but then I'm rarely anywhere near the puck, expecially if it's in front of the CPU's goal.

So the right stick will go after the puck when on D

Last year, you'd push the puck ahead to maintain control and get away from the D using the right bumper. Only got a chance to play a couple of games last night, but noticed that when I tried to do this, it would just do the saucer pass instead. Can anyone clarify how it's done this year?

Or in the offensive end. I was in front of the CPU goal going after a rebound, and ended up smacking the CPU defenseman.

Take your time getting out of your zone, getting into an offensive zone, and getting a shot. A lot of times, I feel it is better to just get the puck on the goalie rather than to continue a cycle or passing, even if you know the shot has no chance of getting through.

This is probably the most realistic sports game I have ever played, and it's really not even close.

Yeah they moved the speed burst to the left trigger
