Re: 2009 MLB Trade Deadline Discussion
I dunno how old this rumor is but I heard the Sox would trade Clay Bucholz and Daniel Bard for Halladay.
I'd be tempted to make that trade but I'd want a bat thrown in as well.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

I feel bad for Bucholz the guy is considered untouchable but the Sox don't seem to have room for him. It's like they're hoarding him as insurance when he's clearly frustrated at pitching in Triple A.
I know he's with the big club now but I can almost guarantee he'll be sent down again by the end of the year.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: 2009 MLB Trade Deadline Discussion
This would never happen but it's an interesting thought...If a team would trade for Halladay but also take Vernon Wells and his $18mil contract off their hands, I'm sure Toronto would be pleased enough not to demand the top 1 or 2 prospects in the opposite team's farm system.Originally posted by Gibson88Anyone who asked for an ETA is not being Master of their Domain.
It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.Comment

Re: 2009 MLB Trade Deadline Discussion
Doubt Boston would want to take on Wells while they're still on the hook for Lugo's contract too. I suppose he could play rightfield, and would be an upgrade over JD Drew...at least defensively (?).This would never happen but it's an interesting thought...If a team would trade for Halladay but also take Vernon Wells and his $18mil contract off their hands, I'm sure Toronto would be pleased enough not to demand the top 1 or 2 prospects in the opposite team's farm system.

I'd expect to see George Sherrill, Danys Baez, and maybe Aubrey Huff moved at the deadline. Apparently the Angels, Brewers, and a few others are in on Flat Breezy.Comment

Please, someone overpay for Cliff Lee so the man can get some support. Victor as well, so they don't get screwed again next year when Captain Twitchy and his little buddy Marcus are back, continuing to screw the entire organization into the ground.Too Old To Game Club

Deal has been shot down by Omar apparently.
I don't think Halladay will put the Mets over the top for this season anyways, not with the injuries they're having. If he signs a 3-year extension or something, then I can see this as possibly being a good deal. Having 2 of the top 3 pitchers in a pitcher friendly ballpark is gonna be crazy.Comment

Re: 2009 MLB Trade Deadline Discussion
I don't think Halladay would approve a trade to the Mets. I don't think the Mets are any better than Toronto at this point, probably worse actually.
Buchholz is replacing Wakefield for probably the next two starts. If he impresses I doubt the Sox send him back to Triple A so I wouldn't feel too bad for him. Plus he had his chance last year and was nothing short of a disaster.
That said, If I were Boston I would not be afraid to include him in a package for Halladay. I would try to sell Toronto on Bowden, Masterson, and perhaps anyone else but it wouldn't be a deal breaker. Anderson should be the organization's only untouchable and not because he's a sure-fire MVP candidate, but because the Red Sox are thin on position prospects. It's unlikely Buchholz will ever be as good as Halladay and relief pitchers that throw 100mph (Bard) usually don't last very long. It's a risk worth taking for Boston, but it won't happen. Besides, Boston needs a bat a lot more than it needs a starting pitcher.
Philli should get Halladay. I doubt it will but the reasons are the same as for Boston. No one Philli has will likely be as good as Halladay. If Toronto wants Happ I'd include him in a heart beat because he looks like a league average lefty who is just on a hot streak. And Drebek for Halladay seems worth doing. A duo of Halladay and Hamels is just too good to pass up and Blanton as the third starter is pretty solid. World Series or bust.
That said, I doubt very much that Halladay gets traded. There's too much pressure on Toronto to get something of tremendous value in return and most clubs are coveting their young prospects. This has all the makings of being one of the more boring deadlines in recent memory. Maybe Holliday will get traded but he's the only "name" guy I could envision getting dealt at this point.Comment

Re: 2009 MLB Trade Deadline Discussion
If you are Toronto would you really consider trading Halladay to anyone in your own division knowing that you may have to see him 2-3 times this year and 6-8 times next year?. Trading him to the Sox or Yankees would just come back to bite the Jays time and time again since both clubs could easily offer him an extension.
If traded the smart money is on Philadelphia but i wouldn't sleep on the Dodgers or the Angels.Comment
