    MLB Roster Tools - Pitching available now

    Get it HERE

    This version will need Excel 2007 to work, I'm working on converting it for those with Excel 2000-2003, but that requires rewriting some code. Should be doable, just needs some time.

    To use it, simply choose your team from the dropdown box, and the year, and click "Get Data". Give it some time...it has to retrieve info from Baseball-Reference.com and then lookup the stuff in the database. Depending on your computer, this should take only a few seconds to maybe a minute. I have an older computer and it takes me about 30 secs to update everything.

    I'll keep an updated version of the database and upload it every week so you can add in new pitchers that are called up.

    Please, let me know if you spot any errors, there are sure to be a few. Also, I'd love to hear what people think of the ratings. This tool is made for everyone, so I want to have a debate on what you think and what can be improved for future versions.

    This is from the README file, please make sure you follow this or it will not work properly...

    How to Install
    ==============

    Create a folder on your C:\ drive named "bball".
    Copy both files to this folder.
    Open RosterToolsPitchersV1.xlsm and enjoy!

    Potential Problems
    ==================
    You may have to allow Excel to run macros and access the database. By default these are sometimes off in Excel. If that's the case, after opening the spreadsheet, you should see a message in the upper right hand corner with a button you can click. Click this and allow the spreadsheet to do it's thing...there's no malicious code in here.

    Also, Some pitchers will not update from the PitchFX database correctly. This is rare, but does happen due to a naming mis-match between MLB and Baseball-Reference.com. One example is Dan Haren. Baseball-Reference has him as "Danny" so he doesn't pull pitch data from the database. To solve this, simply goto the "Data" tab, find him, and change his name. If in doubt, check the spelling of his name in your MLB 09 The Show, those are usually correct.

    Here's a screenshot that also has some info on the different functions on the main page and how to use them....

      Someone was able to get it to work with a Mac Pro I think it is. So it's possible I suppose depending on the type of Mac and the software you run.

      Also, I corrected a minor bug, basically the program not recognizing a RunFB from Left handers. Fixed and the link is updated to reflect the newer file.

          You can try an Excel "emulator"...but I don't think the tables will line up correctly in some cases.

                      I like this but I have one issue. The lowest amount of pitches a player can have on the game is 3, but some pitchers only have 2 on the spreadsheet, what do I do for the other pitch that they have to have on the game?
                      "Hate my game, hate my swagger, my hunger. Hate that I'm a veteran, a champion. Hate that, hate it with all your heart...
                      ...and hate that I'm loved for the exact same reasons."

                        What I usually do is if they have a curve or slider...I give them the slurve and make it close to their curve or slider.
                        If not and they have a FB...I give them the running FB and make the movement rather low.
                        I figure that to be the best solution.

                          Right, there's always going to be situations where you'll need to use a little common sense along with the numbers. Especially with guys who haven't really thrown much...they haven't had a chance to accumulate numbers to give them a good sample of their ability.

                              Ok, I'm going to have to ask that anyone who has problems with the sheet at least give some information other than, "It doesn't work". Hard to solve any problems with no information.

                              If it doesn't work, I need this info to be able to help:

                              1. What version of excel are you using?
                              2. Where do you have the files installed?
                              3. What (if any) error messages do you see?

                              Thanks!
