The Frozen North: A Vikings HC Dynasty

    Game: NFL Head Coach 09

    House Rules

    1. No skill points may be allocated to "special skills" for any coaches, the trainer, or the GM.

    2. Players may not be scouted during "Individual Scouting" sessions.

    3. Veteran players (4+ years) must be signed to one of their top 10 contract choices.

    4. My coach must either be a former offensive or defensive coordinator. This means that skill points must be allocated to offensive or defensive upgrades only.

    Settings
    Default Sliders
15 minutes quarters with accelerated clock
    All games will be supersimmed

My coach will be an offensive coach and will take control of the Minnesota Vikings in the preseason. If the game becomes too easy, I may change the house rules or have my coach go to a different team. Enjoy!

    Week 1-Monday Night Football

    Vikings 21, Packers 7

This game was pretty unexciting. I just pounded the ball with Adrian Peterson and Chester Taylor, and then slipped in a few big passing plays. Starting QB Gus Ferrotte was injured during the game, and it is unknown how long he will be out. Until then Tarvaris Jackson will be starting. The defense was great, allowing only one touchdown and creating 2 turnovers.

    Stats

    T. Jackson- 125.0 rating 1TD/0INT 20 yds 66%
    G. Ferrotte- 47.1 rationg 0TD/0INT 62 yds 33%

    A. Peterson- 26/117 4.5 YPC 1TD
    C. Taylor- 7/51 7.2 YPC 1TD

    B. Berrian- 3/47 1TD
    S. Rice- 2/22 0TD

    C. Greenway- 10 Tackles
    J. Allen- 3 TFL
    A. Winfield- 2 INT

        Week 2- Vikings vs. Colts

        Vikings 20, Colts 13

Gus Frerotte was healthy enough to play in this game, saving the team from certain defeat had Tarvaris Jackson had to play. Frerotte led a much better passing attack than last week, allowing me to steal a win from the more talented Colts squad. The Rushing attack disapeared, mainly because Adrian Peterson only received 5 carries. To my horror I later found out that he had torn his ACL and PCL, and will be out for the rest of the season. This may also effectively end his short career. Chester Taylor was lackluster in replacing him. Kicker Ryan Longwell went a dissapointing 2/4 on field goal attempts. This is probably because my special teams coach has a Performance level of 1. An upgrade is needed.

        Stats

        Gus Frerotte- 84.2 rating 0/0 231yds 60%
        Chester Taylor- 20/54 2.7 2TD
        Chester Taylor(rec)- 4/71
        V. Shiancoe(TE)- 5/44
        Jared Allen- 2 TFL

          Week 3- Vikings vs. Panthers

          Vikings 21, Panthers 6

Everything finally clicked for the Vikings third win of the season. The passing game, rushing attack, and stop unit all played equal roles in this victory. Chester Taylor was much better on the ground this week, topping the century mark with the help of an 80 yard touchdown dash. He also had another nice day catching the ball. Receiver Sydney Rice finally had a breakout game, and I'm hoping he can continue to make strong contributions as a #2 wideout. Gus Frerote threw his first touchdown of the season. The defense was as strong as ever, shutting down both the Panthers rushing and passing attacks. Backup defensive end Otis Grigsby made some noise when he recorded the Vikings' first sack of the season.
In other news, the upcoming draft class is the one that includes standout running back Ozzie Jones, so I may be able to find a more than capable replacement for Adrian Peterson.

          Stats

          Gus Frerotte- 73.4 rating 1/1 265 48%
          Chester Taylor- 14/121 8.6 1TD
          Chester Taylor (rec)- 4/82
          Sydney Rice- 6/113 1TD
          Pat Williams- 3 TFL
          Otis Grigsby- 2TFL, 1 Sack

Its tough to say. Chester Taylor isn't an all star, but he has proven that he can stay healthy and put up solid numbers over the course of a season. I think that Peterson might be done. My experience is that his injury will totally destroy a career. Even if he does come back, he will almost constantly have injuries to his right leg. Ozzie Jones is a very tempting draft pick to pair with Chester Taylor.

Sucks about Peterson. The exact same injury happened to him in my Eagles career.

I played as the Lions. In all 9 times I beat them, only twice they had Peterson. And by then, my team was a Superbowl champion.
