What you guys think of the blocking this year?

As far as the demos go, I haven't had much problems. Retail copy is still wait and see. Although, I would have preferred if they didn't remove the lead blocking feature.

For run blocking, it's good enough to not be a game-killer... as long as you don't use sprint while in the backfield. I think it's a big area for improvement presentation-wise though. Guys miss blocks, I'm okay with that. But when they step aside, or run right past the guy they should have blocked, it's like somebody flicking you in the ear. If it showed them whiffing the block instead of ignoring it, it wouldn't feel random like poor AI.

Much improved. Probably one of the hardest things to get right.

I like the game, and this madden finally will get me to buy it for the first time in 5 years, but if this is an improvement in blocking AI, I truly feel sorry for people who bought this game the last 5 years. The blocking AI is atrocious. Every game I have played I've called a sweep or stretch play and had 3 O lineman lead me downfield (very cool) only to see them turn around and go block someone behind me to leave me to get crushed by the defensive backs coming in to make the stop. It happens all too often and in my mind it can really be a game killer. If the O Lineman can't ever run out in front and block the right defenders, it kills the run game completely. Hopefully the devs will fix this in patch #2. That would make the game MUCH better, since it is already a good game.

I can't say that I agree with that. From what I seen in videos and from what I've played in the super bowl demo, I think the blocking is as good as I've seen it in Madden. Which demo are you playing? On what difficulty? Game Killer . Word getting thrown around a lot lately. Have you played Madden in the last five years, or are you referencing the time since 2k5? 2k5's blocking wasn't perfect either.

The run blocking seems ok. But it seems that the pass rush blocking still needs some adjusting. The Ai gets to me way to quick. I see way to many missed assignments from my oline when is comes to pass rushing blocking

I had every madden from the first one on Genesis to 2001. Then I didn't play it until 2005. I played 2005, 2006 and 2009. 06 and 09 were worse than tecmo bowl. I've had APF2k8. Have you seen the blocking in that game? Nothing is perfect, but it's fundamentally sound. I'm not asking for perfect, I'm just asking for basic fundamentals of my blocking AI. When I throw a screen pass and have a nice wall of lineman set up to block for me downfield, I don't expect them to turn around and block someone already behind me. That happens in this game more than it should. There's plenty of proof on these forums.

The run blocking is bad. Needs to be addressed and fixed in a patch.

                    Re: Madden 10 Offensive Blocking

Compared to madden 09 run blocking is amazingly better in madden 10. On the one minute demo I ran the block the whole game and saw so many blocks that would have been missed in madden 09. On one play my guard helped my center with a double team and as I was running right got off the double team ran up and picked up a linebacker. Never seen that happened.

On thing that has really ticked me off in madden 09 was the receiver blocking. I know they are not great but they don't even put an effort into blocking sometimes just letting them pass by. And the corners would tackle players like they were linebackers with easy instead of going for there legs. I haven't seen much of that in madden 10 but I am looking at for that though

The New Blocking Animation looks pretty good...as far as the blocking AI, it still needs some work, espcially of stretch and toss plays, the O-Lineman do not react will when those plays are called.

The run blocking is terrible but the pass blocking is a little better. The only problem I see with it is either you have too much time or no time at all. Its not balanced very well and for the guy who said to fix it in a patch. NOT GONNA HAPPEN.

I think the blocking is pretty good. Honestly, I think these are best holes I've seen open up for the run in a videogame (including 2K5). Pass blocking isn't too bad neither, but I need a larger sample of data i.e. a full copy of the game in-hand to pass judgement. Aside from the warpage (I see a good amount of that), I think the blocking is pretty solid.

The blocking in this game is still embarrassing. I don't even want to attempt to run anything that has a pulling guard because I know half the time he is going to pull, take about 2-3 steps and then do a 180 and try and block someone behind the line or run right past a defender to try and block someone further upfield. How hard is it to program blockers to block the guys directly in front of them?

I don't believe he referenced 2K. And best ever for Madden isn't exactly a golden seal of approval. I like the look of the demo but I'm not impressed with the pocket. It is nothing like I anticipated but I only have the silver demo because I'm not pre-ordering a game that I'm not certain that I will buy. Progression, franchise logic seem great but this particular area I'm still concerned with.
