I've heard from some OS posters that the 2009 version of PS2 was as good or better than 2004 or 2005 so I was curious and had to see how the 2010 version stacks up. I Just played my first game Arizona (CPU) at SF (me) all-pro default sliders. Here are some stats and random notes...
Warner came out passing and kicking me in the rear - jumping out to a 7-0 lead and eventually 13-0. I then went into a nickel "D" every play and they started running with spotty success but scored no more points in the game LOL. I ended up winning 17-13. No need to panic yet though since I kept the CPU run sliders on default. They ended up 24/63 or 2.62 avg per rush attempt. I ran for 20/66 or 3.3 avg. Here is the QB stats:
Hill 13/26 50% 2td 3 int 8 sacks
<FONT face="Times New Roman">Warner 7/13 53% 126 yds 1 TD 0 <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com
I was sacked 8 times - mainly because the blocking is broken on play action roll-outs. The CPU LB's were reacting too fast to my runs so I tried to mix it up with a roll-out, only to get sacked. So far as I can tell it's only the roll-out play actions that are the problem. Also, if you mix it up the CPU will taper off it's aggressiveness. If you are predictable it will kill you.
The AZ kicker was a game in itself. On a kickoff AZ kicker Rackers ran straight down the field and met up head on with my kick returner (like two kamikaze rams going at it.) Rackers served my man up with a flying tackle which made him lose his balance, spin and fall to the ground. Realistic? Not really but it was great stuff. After the play there was an announcement that Rackers was injured with a broken wrist. Shortly after, he heroicly came back in the game and nailed a 49 yard field goal - right down the middle with plenty of room to spare. Then on the kickoff he hooked it out of bounds LOL, WTF? Later, he came back and barely missed a 53 yarder wide right. I like that such a boring part of the game kept me interested.

No DL pass rush!!! I adjusted pass block sliders all the way down and there was really no noticeable improvement. The DL gets sucked and glued to the OL and can't break free. Funny though because on running plays they have no problem breaking off a block to make tackles.

OL run blocking is much better than next gen!!! I looked at many replays for problems and it wasn't perfect but so, so, so much better than the PS3 version. Unfortunately when there's a crowd there's alot of pinball action though.

For some reason on one play my nose tackle froze and didn't move. On some other plays there was a delay before he would move.

On big hits there’s an annoying sound effect (like a bomb going off) along with screen jerk. Couldn’t find a way to turn it off. Uggh.

Screen jerk with extreme crowd noise is annoying. It would be ok if it came on during important moments, but the crowd sometimes gets jacked up in moments of unimportance.
Individual momentum – player ratings go up and down during the game based on their performance. During play selection a ticker moves across the screen which shows the changes but it doesn't mean a whole lot. There are too many to read and so what if Warners tackle rating went up 3 points? I like the concept but need more time with this to see if it was implimented well.

Had a strange feeling the CPU was allowing me to get back in the game. I was trailing by 13 points at halftime. In the 2nd half the CPU fumbled a punt return, their offense went into a predictable/conservative running mode (with those awesome WR’s?) and their punter BADLY shanked two punts. The feeling was as if they were just helping me out any way they could – and I ended up winning on an amazing 22 yard reception by Vernon Davis with 17 seconds left that looked like “The Catch II.” Bolden & Fitzgerald had a combined 3 receptions all game.
Overall impression...not bad but there are ??? It's only one game but I sense the gameplay overall is better than the PS3 version. The pass rush issue sucks but the poor OL line blocking is a huge issue with me on the PS3. Linebacker play is good and you can get pressure on the QB. DB play overall is also good, so if they can fix the pass rush and pinball running this game would be much better.

could play online. It would be a nice feature and I'm sure the game would sell more if this was possible.
