Did it live up to the hype?

So we can all agree that Madden 09 was a huge disappointment. It seems like the Madden staff started almost from scratch when beginning Madden 10. They were sick of hearing that the game wasn't living up to the capabilities of the next gen consoles and about the 2k football series. I anticipated this years game to have a few 'glitches' understanding that there was a very different staff developing the game.

With that said I would like to point out that I have not yet played the game. I ordered half a year of Sports Illustrated and will be receiving Madden 10 as a gift for the subscription order.(I figured they might have the first patch released and maybe a roster by the time I got the game.)

Now here's my question. Did the game live up to the hype? I was more excited for this Madden game than any since Madden came out for the next get consoles and I ditched my PS2. Am I going to be disappointed? Is Madden 10 a step in the right direction or does it seem to still be treading water as in years past? Let me know what you guys think.....I'm so jacked to play this game after watching some pre-season football. Oh by the way I was at the Packer game last night and their best running back hands down was Tyrell Sutton. Too bad he might not make the team.....

No. This is what next-gen Madden should have been like 2 years ago. Its finally catching up to the ps2 versions, and thats pathetic.

If you see it on Sunday, its in the game was the motto, but apparently no one at EA watches a 3-4 defense on a regular basis.

I would like to clarify and say I am not looking for specific problems. I can read about those in other threads. Just overall, is the game a step in the right direction, about in line with last years game, worse, or does it live up to the hype?

No, but its better than 09. Pro Tak is over hyped and presentation still needs a ton of work. Game seems not finished IMO.

Its a step in the right direction, but thats not saying too much after the absolute piles of **** they put out in 08 and 09.

Yes its a step in the right direction and for me its lived up to its hype. As I've stated before, it reminds me an awful lot of the legacy gen games, but has next gen graphics.

If you enjoyed the way the PS2 version played, then I don't think that you'll be disappointed with this years game.

i think it has, i mean, i couldnt stand the gameplay in 08 or 09, but only after a playing a few Madden Moments and a couple games, i think this Madden is great, now, if they can build on this rather than just sit on it for a few years, we'll see hopefully.

If you have don't have high expectations for this game and are not a nitpicker who looks for the negatives, then you will enjoy madden 10 a lot. I am having plenty of fun with this game and I can see myself palying it all season long.

Re: Did it live up to the hype?

So now that it seems most of you think its a step in the right direction, what do you see them working on for next years game? I'm not asking for a wishlist or anything here, but what are some things that need work?

From what I have seen and having played one 'play now' game at the store, it seems like offense plays very well but defense could use some work. So my fairly uneducated assumption would be that defense will get a heavy dose of work for next years installment.

One more thing. How is the return game in this years version? It seems like the slower game speed may have helped this aspect of the game? Any opinions?

Well put it this way. I can see the light now. If they do as much improvement to next years we will really have something. I think Ian's job is safe... Hopefully EA doesn't think this year's was the end all of Madden. This is what the 07 version should have been like in my opinion.

two words, HELL NO. running around with players feels like ur trying to drive a boat with ur controller. I went back and played 09 last night and i think that is actually the better game. and i hate that freakin game!!!

Re: Did it live up to the hype?

It did live up to the hype in terms of how much I realistically expected it to improve. I think the people who were disappointed probably had unrealistic expectations.

But I do agree that the 3-4 defense and differences in schemes overall shouldve been given more attention. I think that is something that couldve been done this cycle if they wanted.

Madden 10 is a huge improvement and fun (for the most part), but it is far from perfect and can be very aggravating. At the very least, it gives us hope moving forward. If the patches can fix the pass rush issue, pursuit angles, covering the flats and some of the franchise stats, I will probably play this game well into next year. If not, it will probably be collecting dust by the turn of the new year.

Not even God himself could develop a game to live up to the hype this game got.

Honestly, its tough right now to say what they need to work on as I don't know what all will be/can be patched.

One thing that I'd like to see implemented next year is the ability to have individual coverage assignments on receivers ala legacy gen. I'm talking about shading inside/outside, press/loose coverage.

I actually like the return game this year. I've seen some people say that its too easy to take returns to the house and I've seen others say its too difficult. Me, I'm happy the way it is, as I've only taken one punt back to the house.

Again, my stance would be that if you liked the gameplay of the legacy gen games then you'll like the gameplay of this years game.
