Kicking in Madden 2010 and a comment on punting.

Does anyone else hate kicking in this game?

For one, the ratings are done pretty poorly.

Right now, I am playing as the Steelers with Jeff Reed. Admittedly, he isnt doesnt have the strongest leg in the league, but he CONSISTENTLY makes it inside 50 yards unless its in terrible conditions.

I am playing Minny in the Dome, and I kicked two FGs from 41 and 44. Both were perfectly kicked on the meter...right down the middle and maxed out power, and STILL I came up short on both.

In the game, Reed has a kick power of 87. With the stretched out rating system, that should still be enough to kick a 50-53 yard field goal, dont you agree? I mean, I would say kickiers that have 99 kick power should have enough leg stregth to be able to set the NFL record. 99 is as good as it gets, so a player with 99 should be able to kick it 65-68 yards if done perfectly in good conditions.

87 should at least be able to hit 50-53 yards without the wind. Im not sure if EA used any logic when setting these ratings.

I really dont want to turn Jeff Reeds kick power up, but if I am coming up 5 yards short on 44 yard field goals with maxed out power, I may have to bump it up to like 95, even though I admit he probably doesnt deserve it.

As for punting...why does the CPU botch the punt every other time? Even if its a great punter, I can count on the CPU kicking it out of bounds a few times each game.

Does EA realize how important special teams are? Apparently not, since theyve been broke for years.

Agreed. I was kicking a 40 yard field goal with Nick Folk. Perfect conditions and perfect kick... only to end up way short. This shouldn't happen with 94 KP and 93 KA.

Speaking of punting, I want to know why the CPU has the ability to audible into another punt formation if you come out with a Punt Block formation, but we are not able to do that. This has always ticked me off in all the Madden games.

Then set one of your audibles to max protect punt.

LoL that is some real talk, I always wondered the same thing about the special teams, cpu able to audible for us but we cant for them also yeh i noticed kicks coming up short, but to be fair, I only noticed it in bad weather, when it's good weather i've been good.

Are you using the left stick to LOWER the arrow to its lowest possible setting prior to kicking? This simulates what kickers do IRL on longer kicks -- lower trajectory = more distance -- and it works like a charm. Brings in more blocks, in theory, but that's how it is in real life.

I run Cowboys and so know for a fact that Folk can hit from 50 plus using this method. You have to catch it for sure, but definitely doable. If you aren't adjusting trajectory with left stick, this will solve your problem.

Yeah. The kicking was also bad last year, I could never make a 50+ yard field goal. I haven't made one yet this year either, even kicking with 5 MPH wind

yeah it seems like kickers range is a little short. I'll have to try pointing the arrow down more.

Yes. Down all the way = maximum distance. Hope it helps you.

With this method, 50 plus is definitely possible for kickers who it should be, which is most of them. That said, you have to get all of it and the right-left miss is more sensitive than it has been before. And keep in mind, getting all of it means kicking it STRAIGHT, not just within the defined limiter. The straighter/more pure the strike, the further it goes and you don't bleed distance off to the left or the right.

I really like the kicking this year. Way less automatic. Feels much more SIM to me.

Youre right, but the kicks still seem a little short based on ratings.

I just supersim the kicks so that it's not automatic every time. And I'm considering supersiming the punts as well.

Thanks for the info on lowering the left stick. I'll try that.

I sure hope you know putting the arrow as far down as possible lengthens your kick distance 5-7 yards...

Beat me to it. I'm really surprised this isn't more well known. I thought it was common knowlege. Oh well. Last year the greatest distance was a tiny bit above the lowest trajectory. It seems they have changed that this year and made it the lowest point.

Yea I thought almost everyone knew about lowering the meter all the way down equals more power too.About the punting, that hasnt happened to me unless the computer has kicked it out of bounds to try to pin me inside the 20 or if there is bad weather conditions and wind
