    1st Week Madden Sales

    From vgchartz

    2010:

    360:575,624
    PS3: 363,256
    PS2: 134,112
    Wii: 96.441
    PSP: 55,221

    2009:
    360: 709,955
    PS3: 426,724
    PS2: 256,721
    Wii: 119,235
    PSP: 98,964

Despite the drop in sales, I feel like Madden 10 is easily the best out of all the current gen versions. Because of the vastly improved presentation (still need to get a new pbp guy next year though), I don't get bored after 5 games anymore.

Damn. EA like all other businesses are about the bottom line, regardless if this is the best Madden to date which I think it is besides 05 on ps2. Hopefully they give Ian and crew at least one more year or I hope these sales blow up at christmas time. I like where Ian is heading with the Madden franchise.

All of the systems dropped considerably, although the PS3 version wasn't as bad. I would assume that both the economy and EA's past "subpar" versions would account for the drop (major reason why I didn't buy Madden last year).

If the progress continues into next year, I'd expect a considerable boost. When huge progress is made, the 2nd year is always the biggest b/c if the dev. team shows it's serious about the development of the game, it brings back both the core & casual gamers.

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.

Wow! That's a LOT bigger drop than I expected. I don't think people can blame the economy so much as people are tired of spending good money on this engine, not when triple A titles like The Show have seen their sales go up this year, while both Madden and NCAA have seen a sales decline for 4 straight years. People who are putting most of the blame on the economy are kidding only themselves. .

I think we may finally be nearing the end of the exclusive. I don't see how the NFL or EA can keep this up.

No i think the economy can be blamed for a good bit of this IMO but no need to go off on that, it is a pretty decent drop

I wonder how sales are with .99 cent 2k5?

I'm sure alot of casual fans who've been burned by EA over the last several years simply looked at the gamerankings/metacritic score, saw an 87 and decided it's not good enough. The people on the fence might check forum boards and see the slider fest going on and decide to throw in the towel. It's not "just the economy." If the average critic score were 92+ the buyers would be there.

While not unexpected given your constant doom and gloom when it comes to all things EA, you're crazy if you think the licensing exclusivity will end any time soon. You're just as crazy if you think 2k would be anywhere near getting an NFL or NCAA game for that matter in to the production pipeline any time soon.

Ig would be nice if there was no license exclusivity, I don't think anyone can deny that, but it's not realistic to expect EA's current licensing situation to change any time in the near future.

                    Well, 24% is pretty much.

I would still put about 20% on the economy and 4% on angry 09 buyers.

I think its quiete natural and "fair" in some way...with next-gen arriving, EA had weak dev teams on all their franchises...and still got, high figures.

After years of dissapointment, they need to win their customers back with quality.

Do the math. EA reported something like a billion dollar loss last year. Their flagship Madden and NCAA titles are suffering close to a 25% drop in collective sales from last year, and are even worse off when compared against the sales numbers from 5 years ago, when the original exclusive was signed.

Do you think the shareholders are doing cartwheels on this news? Trust me, the end is near for all the exclusives that EA nabbed, back in the day. How many 2k fans have passed on buying an NFL title solely because they don't like EA's engine. That's money out of the nfl's pocket.

EA is a publicly traded company. Anything can happen. They now have to go infront of shareholders and explain why they're spending hundreds of millions in licensing and marketing for a product thats declining by over 20% in sales.

If they would just spend that money in development and make the AWESOME, revolutionary game that truly can, we wouldnt even need this discussion.

                          Wishful thinking.

Exclusive licensing is a cornerstone of the NFL's business model. They wouldn't deal with anyone but EA, and no one out there is capable of ponying up the cash.

I wish it weren't so either, but your obvious bias clouds your judgment. you simply can not speak on this subject with any objectivity.

I do hope you are right and I am wrong, but I see no way that happens.

Before loosing their NFL license, they will start a final takeover on 2k.
Exclusive licenses are a money-spinner in such business.
