    In-Game Advertisements

The last couple of days I've had this Rogers advertisement right above the ticker and to the right of it. Kind of annoying.

when you start the game and it starts loading rosters start hitting the A button to cancel connecting to EA servers and it will stop.

Its insane where they put it and how big it is. Its almost like visiting a crappy website. if this is how the gaming future looks its bleak indeed...

I can handle ad's but not in my face like so...

If you think about it, the price of new games hasn't risen much since the NES days. I think new carts were US$50 back then, compared to US$60 now. At the same time development costs have skyrocketed. A lot of games have budgets that compare with medium-budget movies.

If ads are keeping the price of games from rising, they're OK with me.

Fair point, but production costs have dropped and you have alot more capable tech people walking around than you did 20 years ago.

Heh, where do you get the idea that production costs have dropped? And don't forget to add in the license costs. I wouldn't be surprised if the licensing costs for Madden 10 exceed the entire budget of Madden 94.

I've only seen them once that I recall. It was an ad for KISS at Centre Bell (which seems like a very targeted ad given that I live in Montreal) that appeared on the bottom of the franchise menu bar.

In FNR4, though, I see ads every time I play the game even though I only play offline. (One of them is that same KISS ad.)

                          Re: In-Game Advertisements

I would much rather some fair chompetition by the computer than some chompetition for ad space in a game I have bought. Why don't you see a Big Mac posted on a spaceship in Halo or on a decapitated head in gears or war? Because there is a respect, a line some developers, rather publishers wont cross for the sake of their game and their reputation.
This ad revolution in EA games is a tribute to the ever evolving method of business. It's never personal though.

They have to make extra money off of the game somehow. Haven't you heard that Madden sales have gradually been dropping over the years? This means that Madden is most likely not bringing in the money that it used to. The advertisements are probably helping Madden games sustain their yearly budgets and profits without making EA take a huge hit to its wallet.
It's all about the Chargers, the Lakers, and the............*falls asleep*

Many good comments here, with this stating the facts the best.

EA needs to revenue and they get it from these adverts.

I for one, do not mind them, probably because I haven't seen them yet.

I do not mind being reminded do 'Be A Chompion' Because I am one.

But, We DO see them on Sundays right?
Do we turn off the tv or call the networks? lol Nah.

I understand to some it can be a nuisance. But in the big picture, it doesn't hurt the gaming experience. At least I don't feel it does.

Lets just be glad its not actually affecting the gameplay. Or is it those pop ups that are causing the bad pursuit angles???

                              Hmmm.

                              Nah,

hey guys remember...If it's in the game.....

enjoy 10 guys, its entertainment, and life is short.
