Creating a Roster file from scratch...

Reasons:

Progression issues: ie: There should not be 20 players with 99 overall after 1 year.
I do this by following simple and flexible guidelines:

I have very few Players starting out as 99s. I am not sure why NCAA started handing out 99s so freely. For example I have Tebow at 97 OVR at QB and 87 as a TE/FB/HB (Where some project him in the NFL).

I use a combination of what the players production in college along with their Pro Potential. This makes it better for the Draft class going into Madden as well!

Freshman - should mostly be in the 70's except for 5 star recruits who ARE in the teams depth chart!!!

Sophs - Highest rated Soph should be Julio Jones and he should be around 91 not many sophs that I am aware of should be higher than that. most from the FR all american team last year are around 87-89

Juniors - If they have pro potential it can vary on the player but most should be around 90 if they are projected high. This should be based on college and pro potential from Scouts Inc on ESPN. If they do not have pro potential and are considered all conference in a BCS conf they should be around 86-88. You can make a player effective without having his overall so high. This can fluctuate depending on the team/conference and the teams success. This is how I will edit the teams to make them like their real life team.

Sr - If they have pro potential they will be ranked according to their College production and NFL grade through Scouts Inc on ESPN

Some unique player situations: SS - Stevie Brown MICH I have him at SS but at LB in the depth chart and adjust his ratings to make him appropriate for college and pros. He will be going to the NFL as a safety. Same Harry Coleman of LSU. WVU WR Jock Sanders is at WR but I am considering moving him to RB because that is what he is listed at by WVU and his skill set is projected to be a Darren Sproles type IF he makes it to the NFL.

I currently have 33 teams done VERY accurately. I read all the reports on the freshman before changing their attributes if needed. I edit the other players based on college production and pro potential from different NFL draft rating sites, including Phil Steele, Scouts Inc, ESPN, NFL Fans, Mel Kiper, etc.

Finally after the roster file is complete and we get closer to signing day I will begin making a roster file with the 2011 Freshman that will be committing in February.

I did all of this last year as well.

Anyone interested in helping please contact me. The expected work load is a minimum of 2 hours per team I am fine doing it slowly myself but figured there may be some out there who would like to help and then the file could be done sooner. If I get decent Help these could be out by the First BCS Polls. Without help I am not rushing and Looking at December 1st. I am a grad student and last year I did not have an internship and other commitments so I could really use the help this year.

Once you contact me I will inform you of my strategy of rating. I have the roster file loaded to my gamertag (gatorbull) for your evaluation before we start working together to make sure we agree on the direction of the project. If you just want to help name that is fine as well. I can make the skin shade/number/class/ attribute adjustments later.

The teams below with Ratings are the teams that have be re-rated once. The other teams listed without ratings are next in line.

Please feel free to give advice on the rosters as well. it is impossible to follow every team every week. Howeve I will not make knee-jerk edits based on one game ie: Oklahoma loosing to a very good BYU team, did I make adjustments yes, but not drastic. OU held them to 14 points, and were missing their best Receiver for the whole game and a first round draft pick QB for the 2nd half.

On top of the typical issues please let me know which players dreads and if they are long or short so that I can attribute the appropriate face. This way when they get to madden they will have the correct hair.

43 teams completed. Most of the big teams are completed should be able to go faster on the rest of the teams.

50 teams down 70 to go whew not even half way there. I did the "top" 40 teams as they were ranked pre-season by phil steel and others now I am going in Alphabetical order until finished. I typical work in the early morning 7am-10am and late at night 7pm-11pm

if anyone can fill in some of the time in between there let me know. at my current pace I will be done prior to what I originally thought. i should be done by the first BCS rankings around October 20th instead of what i originally thought which was end of November. these lower prestige teams are going a little quicker than I thought.

No they aren't. These rosters are specifically for Madden.

I am naming from scratch because I did last year and I think this is the best way to make sure I evaluate every player in the game.

EA really did a poor job with the rosters this year.

These rosters are not specifically are not only specifically for madden. They take madden and college production into consideration. Meaning players who do great in college yet are not projected high in the NFL (ie: Graham Harrell) will be lowered. Players do not need a high overall to be productive if their other attributes are accurate.

I also keep underclassmen on the lower side because they average 4-7 points of progression a year. This will lower the amount of players who are 99 overall atleast for years 1,2,3, and 4...

Yes it is alot of work. However, I have a system and am almost half way through. My goal is to have a first draft completed by the first BCS rankings.

DK does a great job and I use his rosters while my are incomplete. I did my own set last year because there was no post patch roster set last year. While it is a huge undertaking I actually kind of enjoy it because I learn about all the players.

I spend about 2 hours per team and read different season previews, rankings, player ratings, and season outlooks. I also check player stats so far for the season.

I just have a specific way of rating players. I feel with player progression you have to realize the difference in players classes. It kind of goes something like this:

Freshman : rating cap of 86 - must be 4-5 star on both Rivals and Scout, must be in the teams depth chart and producing. I have very few if any freshman this high. Most 5 stars are around 82-84... Examples: QB LSU Russell Sheppard 82, FS Miami Ray Ray Armstrong 81, QB Michigan Tate Forcier 82 QB Denard Robinson 78 (93 spd) (75 THA) Tend to make running qb's throwing accuracy because it is un realistic to be running backwards full speed and be able to throw on a dime!, FSU CB Greg Reid 83, Auburn QB Tyrik Rollison 79, Notre Dame LB Manti Teo 83, Arizona State LB Vontaze Burfict 82. Mainly if the player is a highly regarded recruit I keep their awareness lower until they are starting or getting significant time. for example Jon Bostic LB for Florida I had at 80 OVR but he is leading the team in tackles and is supposed to take over in the middle next year so he is at an 83 and wont go any high than that no matter what he does.

RS Freshman: rating cap of 88 - Must be starter and producing big time and have serious pro potential with all conference accolades.

Sophomore : rating cap of 91 - I think only Julio Jones is this high, I have not run across to many other true Sophs deserving this high. Most who were Freshman All Americans last year are around 87-89. But they must be starting for their team or seeing significant time and have pro potential. Note I have Pryor 87 OVR, CB Jenkins FL 88, FS Florida Will 89, QB LSU Jordan Jefferson 87, MIAMI QB Jacory Harris 87 WR Aldarius Johnson 87 WR Benjamin 86 DT Forston 88 LB Spence 87, Robert Griffin 87,

RS Sophomore: rating cap of 93 with exceptions for any first round projected players. I think the highest player here is OLB Travis Lewis (91) for Oklahoma he should be the highest RS Soph I am aware of so far. Kellen Moore QB Boise is close behind at 88 or 89.

Jr: basically no cap if they have pro potential they are rated accordingly to where they are projected. If lacking good pro potential but still key college player they are typically around 88-90

Sr: Pro potential- ranked accordingly. Lacking pro potential but key starter and contributor perhaps all conference accolades they are around 90-92.


These are not specifically for madden because madden does whatever it wants with draft classes anyway. sometimes the best player in NCAA will not be good in Madden and then you could re-do the draft and have a completely different outcome.
