Hide Ratings and Potential in Franchise Mode

With football fans there always opinions on who the better player is. Is Brady better than Manning? Is Polamalu better than Reed? Is Fitzgerald better than the other recievers? Yet there is usually not a clear answer like overalls. Just stats.

Now with Madden we should hide ratings and potential and just use stats. I shouldnt know my rookie QB is going to be awesome or a bust. I shouldnt know there potential. All I should know for scouting is stats from college, workout numbers, and maybe some notes. When scouting I wont have potential, Ill just have to guess.

This also ends progression debates. A QB can be only 83 overall yet be one of the best QBs in the league according to stats (because his wide recievers). This will just add realism. When trading for Defensive Ends I will look at stats and not just go, I want Demarcus Ware over somebody like Dwight Freeney although Freeney had 5 more sacks.

You also wouldnt know when somebody had declined until you look at their numbers. I hate it when I know my running back has declined 6 points before the season has started. If the Chargers knew LT had declined last year, and Michael Turner was 95 overall they wouldve traded away LT and signed Turner. So in my franchise I just want to base everything on last years stats.

Also though you would need to add Position Rankings based on Stats. That way I could know who the best offensive lineman are without going through every single team, or the best QB. But these would not go by overalls. They would go by last years stats, so Michael Turner would've been around 35 last year.

Now Imagine this, you sign the 35th ranked running back and all of a sudden he becomes the 2nd ranked running back in the league. Now that is sweet.

This will make building teams harder and more realistic. No longer will Madden decide whos better, when stats clearly disagrees with their ratings. It will be decided on the field.

I know it may be confusing but tell me what you think of it and if you like it.
I will always, always be a Jets fan. But trust me it hurts.

Good luck with this.... I got shutdown when i proposed removing the overall rating and just having individual ratings (speed, catch, tackle...), so you haven't got a chance of convincing them to remove all the ratings.

I would love for Potential to be hidden in franchise mode; however, I wouldn't want all the ratings to be hidden. Just the overall rating.

I love the idea and have been saying it for years. The ratings dont have to be taken out of the game, just make it so that it cant be seen in franchise mode.

Good idea, but it'll never happen. You're not the first one to come up with this. You're jsut the latest. I brought this up years ago and was pretty much ignored for years until I finally just stopped asking about it.

Great idea. Not sure why ea would shoot this down every year as it would make franchise a ton more enjoyable and could be simply offered as an option to be able to view or not. Is an on/off option that tough to add?

It's the right way to go, but the game engine isn't up to it yet. Currently you would think all RTs are poor, most LEs are better than REs and any player who lines up as a slot receiver is better than the player lining up in the wide receiver spot.

this is an option in the 2K A+ to F-. it works great. your scouts have a degree of error depending on their scouting ratings. it is awesome and more true to real life. it has been around since the previous gen.

in CH last gen, i found a 4 star who graded well but was over-rated. he was solid but never lived up to his stars. while my 3 star small forward went to the nba.

in the last nba, the grades are relative to the position. if your PF is high rated in 3Pt shots, it is high rated for a PF not necassarily for tops in the league. his grade could be an A- but his actual 3pt rating might have been under a SG who was graded a B- for a 3pt SG.

this works great and feels real. madden should really put the option in. in fact all sports games should. it makes your preseason matter. you eventually play the guts who play well rather than your highest rated players.

Isn't this the intent? How many times do you see a great #2 or slot receiver get a huge free agent contract to be a #1 guy and not preform up to expectation?

Maybe I'm odd... I don't draft or sign free agents based only on overall or potential ratings. I look very hard for a type of player. I really dislike linemen under 6'2" and 300 lbs, I prefer linebackers over 6'1" and 240 lbs, and receivers depends on position and need: deep threats under 6' with sub 4.4 40's, possession over 6'2" with ups, and slots a mix.

Only place I see hidden ratings as a problem is in depth charting. The stats are so inconsistant for o-line and d-tackles how do I determine who to start? Same with 3-4 d-ends; I use them more to occupy blockers clearing blitz lanes and funneling runs back to the inside.

I don't like this idea. Coaches IRL have hundreds of hours of game film to judge a player before they draft them. They also practice, with tons of secondary coaches to assess the team. If all you want to go by is stats, then Matt Cassel would've been a 0 rated QB considering he had 0 stats since HS.

You would make the game extra tedious if you were to be forced to run every player through drills just to get an idea whether Felix Jones should be a starter. Now I do like the idea of removing OVR. But everything else is needed I believe.
