Don't fret about the 40 overall rating as a WR, or those ratings in the teens, or 20's in "break press" and "route running".

He'll smoke your nickle or dime back, make all kinds of catches vs zone, and run prcise routes, just like a seasoned all pro.

The best part about this, is that the play calling screen doesnt reflect the player as being on the field.

So you can call your 3 WR set with a TE, 1 RB but when your opponent is making his defensive playcall, what he'll see is "2 WR, 1 TE, 1 RB" and will probably make his play call accordingly.

Utter nonsense.

One of my friends indulged in this slice of cheese, until i called him to the carpet on it.

yea i played online a while ago and the douche i was playing inserted champ baily and every play he would run straight up the field and most times i intercepted him. i think i had like 8 INTs that game lol

In Madden 80% of the ratings dont mean diddly poo. They are just there for eye candy. All that matters is speed and acceleration. If you dont believe me play ranked game vs the Saints and try to locate Marques Colston or Pierre Thomas. All everyone playes with is 3.7 YPC overrated Reggie Bush And D Henderson. Until EA gets their head out of their asses and actually TRY to make all the ratings matter this game will be a pure cheese fest. Go and play against OAK online vs a guy with above average passing skills and be prepared to get deuced on all over you chest by one of the WORST offences in the NFL due to speed.

Hell i know speed kills, but 40 speed does not equal NFL speed. Madden is doing football fans such a disservice by allowing below average players such as Yamon Figurs to rip apart defences, while perennial pro bowlers like Hines Ward are damn near useless due to his 82 speed. Yamon Figurs does not bring 10% of the intangibles that a Hines Ward brings to a football team, to bad EA will never understand.

Does anyone remember when everyone was discussing the stretched ratings, and loads of people were asking Ian if speed was the most important attribute again like always, and he reassured us many times that it wasn't?

Really, are you that desperate to win that you sub a CB in at WR? I mean, come on. The game isnt meant to defend against crap like that. Lets use some common sense here. Players ratings at rated based on their effect at their normal position. Speed is speed. A DE can have 90 speed because he's legitimately fast, and of course if you sub him somewhere else, unfortunately that rating won't change, but why on earth would you try and sub him as a WR just because of a high speed rating, I know Im talking a DE compared to a CB, but... really, its the same damn thing. Nobody with common football sense should be trying to do this anyways. Thank god I dont play online so I dont have to face idiots doing this, its just stupid. If you want the game to play like a sim, then treat it like one. Dont go do stupid stuff to exploit the game if you want it sim. Play it like you should play it, and deal with it.

You can always ask people to do the right thing. The game should be smart enough to not let this stuff happen. Its obvious that route running, among other attributes has no effect on WR play.
