Not sure which NHL game to buy

Hi all,

I'm leading towards buying NHL 2010, but would like your opinion as I'm only purchasing one.

First a little background info - I haven't played an NHL game since NHL 94 for the Sega Genesis. Not sure why. I'd consider myself a moderate fan of the sport, just haven't bought a video game in many years, nor have I played one since then either.

It seams that the overall gameplay experience is slightly better with EA's game from what I've read. But it also seems like 2K10's game has the better Franchise Mode (which is very important to me).

So I'd like to know from those who've played both games, which franchise mode is better - in that I mean: more realistic season stats, better progression, more realistic draft/trading/free agency?
Does 2k10 rule in this department?

I'm sure both games would be fun, so I'm not necessarily worried about which game has better on-the-ice action (when the last game you played was NHL 94, you're standards aren't going to be as high as those who've played NHL '09/2K9).

Any help in this area would be appreciated.

I only play season mode control all teams and I have no issue with EA NHL 10 season mode and just love both their playoff modes.
Normally I would suggest try both demos but 2k doesnt have one
So with my short time with 2k its a refined 2k9 with improved skater models but goalies look and play horrible .
Sliders sre unrealistic out of the box again but Venoms sliders improve it greatly
Same thing with EA if you liked 09 you should like 10 with improve gameplay and tons of bells and whistles and simply the best most realistic announcers in any game ever.

IMO 2k10 has the better and deeper franchise mode...no doubt about it.

I 2nd this. 2K10 has much more realistic stats and is more diverse in controlling a team.
NHL10 has a fun Be a GM mode, but the stats are really screwed up. You'll never see Crosby in the top 20 scorers and teams like the Islanders and Phoenix will win their conferences.

NHL10 is probably easier to play out of the box. It's sleeker and is more polished.
But 2K10 has a lot going for it and a larger learning curve. You can't play 2 games and write it off. You have to give it a chance as you'll begin to notice the nuances and gameplay subtleties within the game. It's worth it.

I agree this is a game that you will get frust with, but after you firgure it out you are like WOW this game is deep.. Then you start cry and the game starts to cry then you get a big group hug and then you both laugh and then cry again. It is one of the love/hate relationship.

We are on the same page here Money99. I'm hoping Be a GM mode can be patched because overall, I like NHL 10's game play better. If not, I'd be happy to play a franchise on NHL 2k10 though.

NHL 10 is Angelina Jolie and 2K10 is Jennifer Aniston.
NHL 10 is Beyonce and 2K10 is Alanis Morissette.
NHL 10 is The Rolling Stones and 2K10 is The Beatles (Yoko Ono breakup era).
NHL 10 is the blue pill and 2K10 is the red pill (says a lot about me seeing I took the blue pill this year).
NHL 10 is Bill Belichick (can't lose) and 2K10 is Lou Pinella (can't win).

And 2K10 has the better franchise mode, so if that's all you're looking for the decision is easy.

I bought 2k10 and then rented nhl 10. There is no question in my mind after playing both games, that 2k10 feels more like hockey. I dont like the weird goalie stuff in 2k10, but everything else about the gameplay is better than nhl 10 in my opinion.

Well, I can't argue with those points. So there is your answer 2K10. For real if you are all about Franchise then you can go wrong with 2K10. NHL is solid too, so in the end you can't go wrong with either one in terms of game play.

I'll end up owning both but I'm probably going to put a lot more time in 2K10 for Franchise mode and just play about 10 games out of the schedule.

Then I'll go back to NHL10 for it's BAP and fun gameplay every now and then too.

That was my point actually. I can always tell when the CPU in NHL 10 is about to get a glorious chance on net -- CPU players coming down on the wing with the disk are suddenly impossible to bump off the puck, lol. Not very real at times, sigh.

Me too.
I'll end up owning both but I'm probably going to put a lot more time in 2K10 for Franchise mode and just play about 10 games out of the schedule.

Then I'll go back to NHL10 for it's BAP and fun gameplay every now and then too.

I might be doing the same, although I had an excellent game last night with NHL 10 vs the Blackhawks.

I've been switching between them both, along with NCAA and Madden.
