Re: Roster help???
The quickest way to improve gameplay is to edit speed, agility and acceleration ratings. They're also the most important edits you can make to the game. I'll explain what I did, but my suggestion is to experiment with what works for you. My edits are pretty extreme and not for everyone.
I'd also suggest you create a test roster and edit one team. You can then play user-cpu games using that team against itself, and try out any edits before you start editing your real roster. What I do is I create the test roster and save it. I then remove all but 12 forwards and 6 defensemen from the roster (less players = less editing).
Regarding the speed edits: with each team, I lowered 4-5 players into the 50s, 6-7 into the 60s, 3-4 into the 70s, and kept 2-3 players in the 80s and 90s. And I set agility and acceleration ratings to within 5-7 points on either side of the player's speed rating.
I didn't look at EA's speed ratings because they rated a lot of big, slow defensemen 80+ speed and so forth to make sure you can't skate around them. What I did instead is I first checked the player's position, player type, and size and weight. Generally speaking, I made the bigger players slower and the smaller players faster. And I made defensemen and tough guys slower than playmakers and snipers for example.
Give it a try. It takes 10-15 minutes to edit a team, then play some games and see the difference for yourself. It's pretty cool to watch the game open up like it does. You'll see a lot more breakaways and 2 on 1 opportunities and such. You can also start by only taking a few players and editing their speed down, so there aren't so many slow players in the game. That's up to you.
I'll also outline what I did with passing and shooting ratings if you're interested.Comment

I am interested in this. I am still on the fence as to which game to get.The quickest way to improve gameplay is to edit speed, agility and acceleration ratings. Re: Roster help???
The thing is, this year we can control teams in season mode, meaning it's only necessary to edit the 30 teams. No need to edit minors and FAs, so it's a not a huge project. If that wasn't possible, I wouldn't have picked the game up this year. IMO the game definitely needs some ratings editing, to get some separation between players. A bit of work for sure, but then I'll still have time to get on with playing a season.Comment
