Help me hop over the fence..

Hey guys, major 2ker here. Was actually shocked to come onto the Live board and read the IGN review and hear that Live has a great game this year. I was planning on getting 2K but after reading all I have about Live, i am leaning towards it.

I hear that 2K is great like last year, although the game is pretty much the same gameplay wise? where as Live has been completely revamped? Is that so for people who have the game?

Also, I have been hearing that this game plays great out of the box with realisitic shooting percentages and tight scoring games, that is a very big plus to me.

Reason why I am posting is..I guess I am hoping to hear from some fellow 2Kers who are also picking up Live instead, or hear some feedback that really convinces me to get this game.

please guys.. I am practically there... just need a bit more of a push..

I'm in the same boat. The shooting styles and sim style I see intrigued me greatly. As does the atmosphere and arena specific chants and sounds.

I have both and both are really good. Out the box I think Live plays better. Live is easier to control imo. Graphics for me go to 2K. This is just my opinion, I think 2K has more to offer in terms of Sim Style play. Now understand I think Live is really sim also but as far when you add the extra that 2K has to offer at this point I give the nod to 2K10. It's still early so this may change down the road.

At the end of the day it's a no lose situation as far as I'm concerned.

I am about to jump over the fence but I reallly want to find out how the simmed stats are for Dynasty Mode.

I beg of anyone to help a brother out by breakin down the simmed stats and player progression for franchise

Me personally I've been with 2k each year from 2k6 to the 2k10 draft combine, but I'm going with Live 10.

Just based on both demos and watching vids Live has more respect for basketball fundamentals (i.e. battling for position, collision detection and scoring in the paint). NBA 2k's gameplay has declined over the years to the point it's become a disservice to the game of basketball.

You can make things better by tweaking sliders of course, but it's an arcade-style game first and foremost. At least for right now NBA Live is not going that route so it's my choice.

You've got to ask yourself what you want out of a NBA game and do research to find out which game will provide that. There are certain features 2k has that Live does not, but for me it means nothing when the gameplay is fundamentally weak.

Ultimately you need to climb over that fence on your own and have an idea what's going to be on the other side before you do so. Maybe renting Live is the best way to go.

It seems like both games are great but the reason I am jumping the fence is that Live has a much fresher feel to it...I want some "wow factor" this year and after playing 2k for the last 5 years, Live has impressed me simply from the fact that I have to THINK during every possession...I actually feel mentally fatigued just playing the demo a couple of times back-to-back...can't wait for Tuesday!

Basically, do you want to throw alley-oops 50% of the time (2K) or do you want to play a game that will punish you if you try to run and gun constantly and not play fundamentally (Live)...
I've been on 2K since 2K6, but i'm definitely making the switch this year...the only thing i'm pissed about is that i spent money on The Draft Combine thinking that 2K was actually gonna improve this year. Big mistake

I'm not completely jumping, but I made the decision to buy both games, something I haven't done since 2K5.

Live has really given it a good push this year. From the crowd, to the dribbling, to the gameplay, everything is a large step up from last year.

This is the last year I'll buy both though, by September of next year I'll know which franchise I'm going with.

This game seems to want you to play sim basketball. They want you to pass, to create for your teammates, to concentrate on your opponent's weaknesses on offense and defense. Live wants to punish you for using old, bad video game habits. Live wants you to know your team and the players, to learn their playbook; they want you to run an offense and not just spin to the basket. Live wants you to play basketball, not play a video game. I like that.

Re: Help me hop over the fence..

Same here man, I haven't bought a Live game in years. I might have bought 2005 because 2k5 was so bad, but other than that I've been a 2k fan for going on 10 years.

For me, I played the Live demo over and over, and when I got used to the defense and the depth/smoothness of the perimeter game, it seriously made 2k10 almost unplayable for me.

So that's my recommendation, to just play the Live demo over and over again until you get used to the gameplay on the higher difficulties. If by then you still find you can enjoy 2k10, then you might want to pick up that game for the features, graphics, and audio. If you're like me though, you'll find the gameplay to be just too much better in Live, and the decision will be easy.

So you're saying 2k is just oops? That ruins the credibility of your entire post. I respect anyone playing Live this year, in fact I do intend to buy it down the road like I've done for a change of pace the last two years. However, I think it's ridiculous that now the game everyone has lived and died with the last 3 years is suddenly considered arcade garbage. Even unchanged , it's a solid sim in it's own right.Live has some sim elements too. It's preference but let's show respect to each game.

I'm right there with you. I've been an avid 2K'er for the past 8 or 9 years, but as soon as I played the Live demo I was hooked. It just has that basketball "feel" to it. I've never had more fun taking mid-range jumpers as I do in this game. I also love that you can't just turbo down the court and into the lane all game, as you will lose the ball if you do so. You really have to play sim basketball and work for good shots. Also, big guys like Howard and Bynum can't put the ball on the floor too much in the lane or they will lose it - just like in real life. In 2K, the big guys handle the ball way too well in my opinion.

But, I think the biggest thing that is making me get Live is the DNA feature, as the players and their teams play almost exactly like their real-life counterparts. It's very apparent in the demo, and I've watched seemingly a hundred videos that show this to be true. Combine that with the electric atmosphere, and I think as a user it's very easy to feel immersed in this game.

                          I didn't say "just oops"...i clearly said 50% oops.
I haven't played the full release of either game, i'm basing this on the demos, and in the 2K demo you can mash on the alley-oop button and even if you don't know who the hell you're throwing it to and the chances are if a guy is in even half a decent opportunity to catch it he will-and he'll finish it. The comp does it too, not 50 percent but they'll throw them up and there's not much you can do about it.
No offense to you man, i've played 2K for a while but i really didn't like last years game. I expected many improvements this year around but this game is even worse gameplay wise. Sure they added some new features, commentary is great and what not, but the gameplay, where it actually counts has dropped off significantly in the last couple of years.

And just to go ahead and prove it i just played the demo again and had 6 alley-oops in a row down the court with the Lakers, 100% shooting, one turnover on a bad pass...
I'm not saying that's how you should play, but that's how you CAN play, and that's how people online WILL play...

I'm with you, the last 2 years for 2k has been rough, but for me it has been the defensive AI. In 2k9 and 2k10, they changed it so the cpu will hug up against you on the perimeter no matter what. It's like the AI is thinking you may blow past me time after time, but I'll be damned if I'm going to give you an open jumper.

Not realistic and hurts the flow of the game.
