    Radie's NHL10 Goalie Edit Project

Short & sweet for now... just letting you guys know what is in the works...

I will be doing Goalie Equipment Edits based on the latest real life equipment. As not all color schemes/pads are in the game, I will have to occasionally make the pads look as close as I can instead of 100% accurate...
    • Version 1.0 - NHL Goalie Equipment - Starters & Backups.
    • Version 2.0 - AHL Goalie Equipment - Starters & Backups.
    • Version 3.0* - International Leagues (TBD) Goalie Eqipment - Starters & Backups
    • Special Olympic Version

Will release work as I go.

Will be in easy to view spreadsheet form.

Will have more info with first major update.

    * Possible version if demand is there.
My claim to fame? I started the most popular thread of all time on OS:
The Photographic Side of NCCAA11. It has now become an OS staple for several games.

These links will always contain the latest changes.

Would truly appreciate comments and critiques on these.
Click the asterisk next to each team for notes on the team's edits
    (and in many cases..pics).

If you have full on suggestions for any goalies, simply click this link and fill out the simple form... I will review it for inclusion in the project.

I finally got some pics up... You can check them out in two ways... They are in the notes for each team (contained in the asterisk link) and also in a GALLERY in my OS Arena. Let me know what you think.

Note that all pics are brightened slightly.

    Version 1.0

    • Anaheim Ducks*
    • Atlanta Thrashers*
    • Boston Bruins*
    • Buffalo Sabres*
    • Calgary Flames*

    Version 2.0
    Version 3.0

I was just wondering... Do you have a specific source where you find the proper equipment or do you just go around sports sites looking for pictures?

Re: Radie's NHL10 Goalie Edit Project

          Posted the Ducks.

          Notes...
Giguere was pretty spot on.. only needed a minor touch up with a stripe or two.

          Spoiler

Hillers was tough... NHL was using his pads from late last year. The blocker came out better then I thought. even if it is the wrong company.. it looks closest to his real stuff...He uses KOHO, good to see them still around...His mask was a MESS. If EA had actually put in a BLACK helmet it would look a lot better
(their "black" is really light grey..sigh)... The 2nd Team Helmet might work if you want, but I cant get over the orange facemask.

          Spoiler

Thought I would have more time to work on this tonight, but I got preoccupied. I should have at least one other update before the night is over.. then tomorrow will be slow & nothing until late, but the rest of the week is devoted to cranking this out.

Some teams are pretty good about having decent galleries of each game.. Those are really helpful for the back ups... Where i can just check which game he played and look up the gallery.. Usually there is a pic or two in there that is helpful.

Other teams arent so good with the galleries. Then its off to Google. Most pictures have the date somewhere in the URL so it is usually pretty easy to determine the date of pics. The season is still young and most pics out there arent from this year yet, so it requires a touch of research, but not to much at all. Just confirming dates.

The Goalie Guild has a pad tracker they always keep updated. Scroll down the page a bit and you see a graphic and click it. Up comes a chart with pads, trappers, blockers, sticks and masks listed for all the NHL goalies.

You can also use getty images site. All the photos have a watermark, but if you're just using them to look at gear, it doesn't get in the way. Just type in the goalies name and his team (ie - Lundqvist Rangers), check sport in editorial images on your first search, and you will have countless images to browse. Hover the mouse over the picture or click right on it.

Re: Radie's NHL10 Goalie Edit Project

                  Posted the Thrashers.

                  Notes...
Lehtonen hasnt suited up yet so I didnt touch him...

Pavelec wasnt even close on so many levels...Helmets are obviously going to be an issue.. but this one works better then I suspect some others will...Blocker and glove are only slightly off (but still pretty good) but the pads are rock solid.

                  Spoiler

Hedberg is another hard one to find recent pics of, only a few pics from his pre-season starts... His mask is pretty off the wall so be content with the halfway decent choice... His pads were a tough call, ultimatly I decided to just go with no accent... It simply looks more realistic/accurate... too much yellow otherwise.

                  Spoiler

Matt's is more of a downloadable all-in-one deal. Plus I am on a 360... This is meant for people to make the edits themselves and be able to do it fairly easily.

That being said.. if Matt wanted to use these.. he can, or if he thinks I could still help him out in some way.. I'd be down.

Also.. to answer your question.. I am technically using the EA rosters (online update) but that is kind of moot... I am just doing equipment edits so it doesnt matter if the guy is even in the game... I can still "build" his equipment without him.

                          Posted the Bruins.

                          Notes...

Thomas was pretty good except the colors were swapped... His helmet is a toss up... you could pick either Boston set-up, either Providence (AHL) set-up or the Custom Yellow.. I went with the Bauer Team Starter (more yellow on top), but it only barely beat out the Custom Yellow... Glove is very slightly off (lip of glove should be yellow, not black) due to game restraints.

                          Spoiler

Rask's Glove was slightly annoying... couldnt get enough black on the cuff, but everything else on it looks good so I'll take it... Blocker is virtually identical to real life... Pads are almost perfect, the thin horizontal lines on the pads should be white, but cant be done... Went with the Backup Mask as it has more black on top.

                          Spoiler

I would love too, but there is no 360 version... or even a list of changes for 360 users like last year's NHL09 updates. But that is fine, cant win them all... This is meant more as a guide for anyone that doesnt mind doing a bit of the work themselves anyway.

Sigh... was just thinking about how far NCAA's series has come as far as roster editing.. and it makes NHL10 look like NHL95 in that regard.

Though I will admit to following Matt's Rosters I cant even get a look at them without a PS3... I would LOVE to see Matt's version of Jonas Hiller and Ondrej Pavelec, not in any sort of "challenge" sort of way... just because I took a lot of time on those guys making tough calls and going back and forth before deciding and would love to see what he did with them.
