Prototype Positions - What does it mean?

When you are setting your philosophies for each position there are a few that have Prototype in them. For example, Prototype CB, Prototype DE, etc. I've been wondering about this for awhile now, what does it mean?

I always considered it to be what the textbook would be for that position.

I know i've seen this a few times on the boards in different threads, but can you tell us the difference between the different philosophies?

For example what is difference between the "Prototype" player, rather than the "Balanced". There are alot more vague ones that are hard to figure out on our own, and they don't describe them in the strategy guide.

Thanks for your answers.

That is what josh said in a earlier thread on 10-27-08 by xanmank... Hope this helps...

Re: Prototype Positions - What does it mean?

So a Prototype DE would be like a Julius Peppers and a Prototype CB would be a big, tall physical corner?

More or less. The problem with the Prototype philosophy (and similar examples like Size/Strength) is that is weights physical ability over intangibles, which leads to a draft board like the Raiders use and their latter-day results (e.g. Russell, Jamarcus and Heyward-Bey, Darrius).

Side issue, but did anyone notice they have a Smart/ Mobile philosophy for offensive linemen in the strategy guide, but that it's not in the game? I guess it's just another thing they meant to put in the game, but didn't.

If u pay attention they did put it in the game, but under the zone blocking philosphy... If u look in the stratgey guide at denver u will see it as smart/mobile then start a career as the broncos under team philosphies it says zone block...

Hope that helps...

It does,I am running the Patriots playbook and I kept looking for that Smart/Mobile under offensive line philosophies. Although why the makers of the strategy guide couldn't call it Zone Block, I don't know.
