trading players question
I am confused about the players bonus when trading them away. I know the next year I take a penalty for the players signing bonus but my question is this. Does the players whole bonus apply the next year or just his remaining bonus?

Re: trading players question
If you want to know what your cap hit will be go to player management and select release player, when the "Are you sure" section come up it will show you how much of a cap hit you will take. From what I understand it's the same amount for if you were to trade him.

Re: trading players question
When I do that it shows that you do not pay his whole bonus total only the bonus for his remaining years. So my guess would be if you trade the player you are only going to have to pay his remaining bonus not his total the next year right?

Re: trading players question
Right, if you had just signed the player to a brand new contract and traded him you would get penalized his whole bonus. But if he is a couple years in you will only get penalized the remaining bonus. I'm pretty sure that's how it works.

Re: trading players question
For clarification: does a cap penalty last for more than one offseason? For example, if I were to trade Cowboys WR Roy Williams for a draft pick (he has a massive six-year contract), does the massive penalty I would incur for trading him last for the six remaining years of his contract, or just the first offseason after I trade him?
I've never been clear on this particular issue. |
Re: trading players question
Just the next year, it's one big hit all at once.
