Ngata or Merriman???

I have a key decision to decide in my franchise i play 3-4 defense and my team has young potentially good OLB's Ex. Rey Mauluaga and brian orakpo but the DE's arent good overall wise but they are big Ex. Allen Branch and kendall langford...which one of these two players will be more beneficial for my team to re-sign??

OLB's get no sacks and aren't very critical at all in Madden's representation of the 3-4, very incorrectly your front 3 seem far more important than your OLB's.

well i want to keep merriman because it seems as tho he rushes the passer better in certain formations, but then again i know that you can't find any big DE's in the draft with high overalls

I use the Chargers and my sack leaders are always the DE's with the OLB's WAY behind.

One of my OLB's got 10.5 sacks last season, so..

and that was all them. Simmed most of my games, and never used him when I did play a game

Joey Porter, Demarcus Ware, Lamar Woodley, and James Harrison accounted for 65 sacks last year. You can't be serious.

Couldn't even mean in Madden...

Harrison averages 1.5 sacks per game for me. One game he ended up with 4, and I never control OLBs or linemen...

Usually my DE always have more sacks then my LBs but when I hired Dick Lebeu as my HC i had rey maualuga have 12.5 and larry english with 10.5 and even james laurinaitis and 6.0

The fact you SIMMED most of your games might have something to do with it, but in several seasons with the Chargers and their 3-4 my sack leaders (simming about 25% of my games BTW) are consistently my DL.

Yea, I said in Madden. It's been discussed ad nauseum that the 3-4 is FUBAR in that the OLB's seldom get the sacks, the DL gets them which is unrealistic.

i did a fantasy draft for my franchise and focused early on young CBs (High MCV and Press Coverage like Revis, A. Cromartie and V. Davis) and LBers (Fast Pash rushers like Orakpo, Curry). My DL were space-eaters while my safeties were good only in coverage. i switched my coach sliders to 30/70 Run/Pass and 50/50 Conservative/Aggressive and i don't have a problem with sacks, especially for my LBers. in year 8 of my franchise, aaron curry had 22 sacks while orakpo had 15 for me. for that season, i played 6 games out of 16. for a simmed game, curry had 4 sacks. in addition to their starting roles for simmed games, it also helps for me to have my OLBers back up the DEs and my best DE (Ngata) as the 2nd DT.

so i think you should go for merriman if you are weak at LB and its possible to get sacks from this position. Ngata is good but what sucks is that he could regress afterawhile since he might not get the sacks to keep up with the rest of the league. this was the case in my franchise as he started to regress at year 7 when he got only 34 tackles and 7 sacks for the season. i think progression is based off of an average of all the guys at the same position. so Ngata had great stats for a 3-4 DE but versus other DEs in the league where the majority of teams use a 4-3, his sack total falls behind which lead to his regression.

if you put Langford at DT he should be about an 85 overall. Ngata is a beast though. If you put him at DE he is about a 93/94 and at DT he is 99. I am a huge Merriman fan and think he is one of the best pass rush OLB's in the game. I guess I would resign guys whos contract are almost up so they have smaller cap numbers or cut an overpaid veteran to make enough cap room to resign them both.

if i did not re-sign Ngata though, who would i get to replace him because there arent many 3-4 DE in the draft
