    Be A GM Starting Rosters

So I thought I'd try my hand at the "Be A GM" mode. I wanted to build up a poor team so I decided to find the team with the most cap space and use them.

Turns out to be the Islanders with ( according to the team selection area ) $19.275M in cap space with 28 players under contract.

I choose the Islanders and go to get ready for the draft. Then I notice that I apparently have 40 players under contract and only about $500,000 in available cap space!!

What's up with this? I can't send anyone down to the minors yet, I'm pretty hamstrung when it comes to trades the AI is offering me. What's going on? Where did the extra 12 guys and nearly $19M in cap hit come from?

Obviously I'm missing something. Can anybody help me out?

I have it showing 6.3mil in free cap in the draft trade screen, which seems correct. They have about 42mil in 16 one way contracts before even figuring for an NHL roster, so those intro numbers are way off. Maybe you had players from the other team on the trade screen adding to your cap? Those numbers change dynamically depending on the offers.

Those numbers aren't from the trade screen, they're from the "Be A GM Central" screen. The one with the calender, list of top free agents and the financial info on it.

This seems to happen for almost every team I try to run. The number of players under contract jumps to 38-40 and I'm right against the cap regardless of the information I'm provided at the team selection screen.

The added players are from the AHL roster but it is bumping up player salaries when it does its cap compliance thing.

So is this behavior intentional or is it a bug? Is there a way to *not* have a team that's pushed right up against the cap at the start?

It's probably a hack to make up for an AI problem, but you could call it a bug because it really doesn't need to be applied to humans. Putting a created a 2 way player on the NHL roster with a contract that gets them up to the cap minimum stops the changes. Taking a player from another roster before starting and then giving them back at the draft for a 5th rounder could be another way to do it too.
