Fired?!?!? But I finally beat Chelsea!!

I got canned by Manchester United after 12 league games (with a record of 5-3-4). I know I was performing below expectations, being that I was in 5th place in the EPL, but man, it still seemed a little premature.

What really made the while thing weird, was I didn't get fired until right after I beat Chelsea 1-0 in the 4th round of the FA Cup (after losing to them twice previously).

I guess I don't mind the whole idea of getting fired, it really adds to the pressure of winning, but it sucks that after just like 15 games, I get canned and my only choice of teams is some Coca-Cola League 2 team that is rated 49 overall. Ugh.

Kinda makes it a game killer cuz I don't wanna be forced to play with some sucky team that I've never heard of... especially if I don't mind struggling through a season where I'm really challenged every game, as opposed to winning every game 4-0.

You can turn the board difficulty down before you start if that helps...

    Sorry about the canning, BTW.

It's still really messed up, I win a game and my rep goes down, I lose and rep goes up. I don't think board difficulty has anything to do with it, it's been broken since at least FIFA 08, getting fired for no real reason. In 08, I was fired after my 35 game - and was undefeated, in my 13th year of my MM.

I'm expecting to fired any day now with Man City, we sit 12th in the league after 10 games, and got bounced out of the Carling v. Sunderland. A 5-2 romp over Man United that come out of nowhere is the only thing that's saving me so far. I definitely like the pressure of it, but it would suck if I do get canned.

Did you win the Community Shield at the beginning of the season? I'm assuming you as Man Utd got to play in it, and that one of your board's objectives was to win it, so if you lost that match your rep and board confidence would've taken a decent hit.

Also if you happened to be 4th in the league prior to that FA Cup match, then somehow slipped to 5th after the cup match (maybe there were some league games played by CPU teams, which actually wouldn't make sense if true) then the game sees that as a negative since as Man Utd your league goal would be to finish top 4 or possibly even win the EPL.

Its stupid but thats how it works. You can lose rep/board confidence after a win over Chelsea (because the team above you also won so you didn't move up in the table) and even gain rep/confidence if you draw/lose to a team like Hull but still manage to retain or increase your position in the same week because your nearest rivals also lost.

You deserved it. Sir Alex would probably get a pass. You are no Sir Alex.

Sorry to hear about that mate, I don't doubt that the system is flawed, but 5-3-4 as one of the big 4 would be considered unacceptable unless you happen to be Wegner, or Fergie.

I'm currently at 2-2-3 as Liverpool and the board is already sharpening the axe. I actually regret going with the team I support in this case as my skill at this game is making it incredibly difficult to keep my job. If I get sacked I might just take a job in crap town and work my way up or start a new MM as Wigan or some such.

I love it if you take over a powerhouse team and put up records like that the board is going to can us. I took over a 2 star MLS team going to try to build them into a powerhouse.

I agree. While I can see some not liking the idea of it, I think it's brilliant. If you're not performing, you get sacked.

Well I done did it, I lost to Chelski 4-1, lost to Stoke 2-0 and at that point the board lost it's patience, and sacked me with a 2-2-5 record, I deserved it though. I'm not ready to take on a team at the top flight just yet and I don't want to turn down the difficulty, realism takes a hit at any level below professional in my opinion, so I am now managing Red Bull Salzburg in the Austrian Bundesliga and I'm doing much better , not nearly as much pressure, I think I'll just try and work my way up the ladder, win the league a couple of time qualify for the Champions league, and then see if I can't land a job in the Championship, Serie B, or the Bundesliga 2.

Re: Fired?!?!? But I finally beat Chelsea!!

I love the threat of being fired, but the way games in hand are worked it sucks. As I posted earlier, I managed Man City, the board set a goal of qualifying for the ECC (4th or higher). Through 23 games, we're in 5th, and I'm teetering on the brink. Somehow though, in the next 3 weeks, the in game schedule contrives to give me 4 games in hand. So Spurs, 'Pool, and the other teams above me are all on 30 games played while I'm on 26. So now I'm in 8th, even though I've kept on winning. In gameweek 27 we lost to Bolton 2-1, and I got fired. Which I had no problem with, shouldn't be losing to Bolton. I really didn't want to stop playing with City though, so I backed out and reloaded and played again. We beat Bolton 5-0 this time, and I still got canned. I simmed the same game 3 more times, and no matter what the result, I still was fired. The stupid games in hand screwed me over.

I'm running the board on Semi-Pro, it just seems unusually harsh on any level above that.

Well, IMO, this begs the question:

If you work your way up as a manager, increase your reputation, take a job at Man U, and put up the same record, would you be fired at that point? If not, I don't see a huge flaw here.r\

Someone needs to find out. I agree with you. If you're a rookie manager and you take over one of the world's biggest clubs and even struggle a tiny bit, forget it. You'd be fired so fast your head would spin.
