Do You Have To Try To Lose?
I have found myself not going into Onside Kick Recovery formations when the CPU is going to be attempting one.
Not to mention blitzing my CBs in order to give CPU a chance to actually throw the ball like they should. I do all of this to keep my games close and interesting. I'm not saying that it is good, but I was wondering if anyone else has to try half heartedly in order to have a good game against the CPU without jacking up the CPU Cheating Scale (Sliders). |
Re: Do You Have To Try To Lose?
Nope...I have no problems losing. :(

Re: Do You Have To Try To Lose?
Sometimes in my Patriots 'chise I would say to myself, "man I'm really having a blowout against another team here, is this really realistic?"
Than the last two weeks happened in real life... |
Re: Do You Have To Try To Lose?
Things are a little easy in my games, but I'm also one of the best teams in the NFL (fantasy drafted, my team is 91 OVR in my second year), so it's kind of to be expected. Even so, I'll still have tough games against other good teams. I just played a game against the Bills and Drew Brees was shreding my D. Darelle Revis was holding TO in check for most of the game (held Fitz to 1 catch for 11 yards last game), but was out for the second half with an abdominal strain and TO caught 5 passes for 75 yards and a TD in the second half.
I'm using RnR's sliders and they're really good, but my team has a ton of talent and games are typically not terribly close, but if I let up at all the CPU can be right back in the game in only a few plays. |
Re: Do You Have To Try To Lose?
I play to win the game. Never to lose the game.
If it's easy, I'll tweak sliders before I play to lose. Playing to lose is no more "sim" than intentionally cheesing/exploiting the AI. |

Re: Do You Have To Try To Lose?
Man I wish I was that good to where I had to try and lose games.
I usually always have my hands full against the computer. And I play with default sliders on All-Madden with hardcore game style. |
Re: Do You Have To Try To Lose?
For the people that have never tried to lose, what setting or sliders do you use? I've been looking for a difficult/realistic slider set and every game it seems(in offline franchise) I have to try and lose. I dont like playing that way, but I also dont like going 14-2 with the Browns.

Re: Do You Have To Try To Lose?
i tweaked my sliders then i put it on my skill i still win but def hard pretty much shut my running game down for the rest of year
|
Re: Do You Have To Try To Lose?
Even if I feel guilty every once in a while about winning so badly, that feeling always changes when I get to a game in which I know I'm not going to win because the CPU has decided it's going to win this game and then proceeds to blatantly cheat as much as necessary in order to do so.

Re: Do You Have To Try To Lose?
Yes. I don't run punts, kick offs, ints or fumbles back anymore. Helps keep the game close and when the score is close, the cpu plays better.
|
Re: Do You Have To Try To Lose?
Nope, not if I play realistically.

Re: Do You Have To Try To Lose?
At times, yes. And not just limited to Madden, but in 2K5 as well. I don't resort to measures such as the OP mentioned, but maybe I'll haphazardly call my plays or pull defenders away from making the tackle.
I'm happy to say that more recently, I've found a sweet(er) spot with my sliders. Right now I'm on a two game losing streak in my franchise rolling into the playoffs and I'm excited knowing I'm not going to have an auto-bid to the Super Bowl. IMO, nothing worse than being TOO good at a sports game. Madden 10 was starting to reek of staleness for me until I boosted the difficulty to All-Madden-like levels. Typically, I'd fall into the All-Pro category. |
Re: Do You Have To Try To Lose?
I started using DB's Stat Accurate Sliders today and my games have been great so far. My only complaint is that my CBs drop a lot of interceptions but it's pretty good. I get a realistic amount of INTs and fumbles and everything. Just won my last game 24-23 on a TD run with 10 seconds left. It was so intense.

Re: Do You Have To Try To Lose?
Never done that.
If the CPU wants to let me win by 70, then i'll win by 70 and adjust the difficulty after. |

Since using them, I'm 4-1, but every game has been decided by 7pts or less and down to the final drive each time. A couple times, I was able to drive down for the winning score (one by the DB trying for the pick, missed, and let Mason get the catch and a nice run into FG range). Once, I was driving, McGahee got stripped and we lost the fumble - and then the game as Denver ran the out the clock. |
Re: Do You Have To Try To Lose?
I am playing as the Browns and struggling hard this year I am 5-7 my key lose was against the Buffallo Bills 31-3 via 5 INT's, 1 fumble, and 7 sacks allowed.

Re: Do You Have To Try To Lose?
I quit my first dynasty because I started out 7-1 with the Broncos and thought the results were unrealistic :(

Re: Do You Have To Try To Lose?
I have yet to lose on default all pro but ill never play all madden again. Too much superman defense. But I do get very very close games that seem to upset me more and more. The CPU just goes nut on defense from time to time but I always seem to get the W.
Losing to the computer for me is probably the most annoying thing ever! AI defeating Man? Never!!!!! jk hopefully..... |

Re: Do You Have To Try To Lose?
The past few weeks I started up a few online franchises with a handful of friends on all pro. I went 34 games against the CPU across three separate fantasy franchises before I lost my first game. I lost my starting QB(Ryan) and RB(Barber) in the first quarter for the game and I was already missing my back up RB(Felix Jones) and that left me with Josh Johnson at QB and Samkon Gado(sp) for my offense and the final was 24 to 34 because I was kinda mad and just simmed the rest of the game at the half.(They went 15-1 at the end of the year so I guess it wasnt so bad in hindsight)
In each franchise(and my offline franchises) I normally score 35+ with each team and would sub in my back ups to let them play and would end the game scoring a few more touch downs. I quit my online franchises because of no sliders(all madden is stupid) and I am currently trying to find a slider set that will provide a realistic game that makes players play best to their ratings. To the OP, I dont try on purpose to lose and it takes an extreme loss of talent to make me struggle/lose a game against the CPU on all pro default. |
Re: Do You Have To Try To Lose?
Nope. All Pro default sliders. Playing as Cleveland. Currently sit at 5-2, the two losses coming against Minnesota and Pittsburgh. No blowouts yet, and the only high scoring game was Week One v. Minn., they won 34-21.

Maybe OP could try them.... Then see if he wins so easily. Using the Patriots in a standard off-line chise and DB's sliders, I went 14-2 with the Pats. Won superbowl. I also did a season as the Denver, 12-4. Eliminated first round. I think those results are fine. Yes there were times when I blew teams out, but with good teams that happens... I really feel confident DB has great sliders. |
