Its not knowing the name of his songs, Its like this, I know U2 is the biggest band in the world, I don't know any of their songs because I don't listen to their music, but I cant deny that they are absolutely huge worldwide, Feel me?

I would say yes, he could go any where and someone would know who he is. If you say Jay-Z to any random group of people they would know who it is. Album sales speak for themself.

I use to be a huge Jay-Z fan, but his music quality has plummeted but you can't blame him, you cant expect him to rap like he did on Reasonable Doubt 13 years after being in the game. He is now making music to get as much radio play as possible and music for every one, and he only cares about money and record sales. Can't blame him.

Unfortunately if he rapped like Reasonable Doubt he would not be world wide superstar outside of Hip hop, his music is commercial friendly but the quality is very good.

He's had a 5 million seller, 2 3 million sellers, and a 1.5 million 2 disk.

Sales wise Eminem kills him with his first four albums selling 4 million, 9 million, 9 million, and 4 million.

That said, the biggest artists in the world are probably the Rolling Stones and U2. I don't think any of us can really judge how popular people worldwide.

btw, "biggest (popular)" seems to be vaguely defined in this thread. Are we talking simply known (I know who Jay-Z is) or known and loved (Jay-Z is the GOAT!).

Sure everyone knows who Jay is and his albums sell, but the same can be said (and to a greater extent) for Eminem. Brittney, Justin, U2, Stones, Madonna, etc.

I think in Western Europe he probably is, but not worldwide. Even a year and a half ago when I was at a party in another country and asked some of the kids if they knew any american music (this being one of the poorer countries) and the name that they came up with for rap was 50 cent. They named others, like Justin, Britney, and madonna.

Agreed. I like Eminem, but Relapse was straight trash. Jay-Z put out one album that did not meet my standards (Vol. 3). 11 number one albums speaks volumes. He is definitely in the conversation of being the G.O.A.T.

Rock music produces more popular and recognized artists.

There are more people over age 30 than there are under 30.

Rolling Stones are bigger than Jay. U2 is bigger than Jay. Aerosmith may be bigger than Jay.
