Reporting from the Highlight Factory (Atlanta Hawks - 2K10)

Meet the 2009 Atlanta Hawks

MIKE BIBBY, G -- Bibby signed a three-year deal to stay in Atlanta in June. Bibby averaged 14.9 points and 5.0 assists per game last season.

JOE JOHNSON, G -- The Hawks' captain and All-Star is entering the final year of his contract, which he chose not to renew. He averaged 21.4 points last season.

JOSH SMITH, F -- The Hawks' top pick in 2004 saw his production decline slightly last year, averaging 15.6 points per game, 7.2 rebounds per game and 1.6 blocked shots per game. But his presence on the court still proves very valuable for Atlanta.

MARVIN WILLIAMS, F -- Williams, who was a restricted free agent, signed a five-year, $37.5 million deal in the offseason. He averaged 13.9 points last season, but missed some 20 odd games due to injury.

AL HORFORD, F-C -- Entering his third year in the league out of Florida, Horford recorded a double-double in more than a dozen games last season. He averaged 11.5 points and 9.3 rebounds per game.

JEFF TEAGUE, G -- Teague, the Hawks top pick and 19th overall selection in the draft out of Wake Forest, averaged 18.8 points and 3.5 assists in his final collegiate year.

RANDOLPH MORRIS, C -- Morris, who was a star player at Atlanta's Landmark Christian, saw limited action in two NBA seasons with the New York Knicks. Morris, who signed as a free agent, averaged 2.6 points in 23 games.

JOE SMITH, F-C -- A 14-year veteran of the league, the Hawks signed Smith to add depth inside. Smith, 34, averaged 6.5 points and 4.7 rebounds last season with the Oklahoma City Thunder and Cleveland Cavaliers.

OTHELLO HUNTER, F -- The undrafted free agent signed with the Hawks last season, playing in 16 games while averaging 1.4 points in limited action.

MAURICE EVANS, G -- Evans is entering his ninth year in the league. He started in 25 games for the Hawks last season, averaging 7.2 points per game.

JAMAL CRAWFORD, G -- A trade acquisition in the offseason, Crawford, a two-year starter, will be coming off the bench for the Hawks. Crawford averaged 19.7 points with the New York Knicks and Golden State last season.

JASON COLLINS, F-C -- An eight-year veteran, Collins played in 31 games with Minnesota last season and averaged 1.8 points and 2.3 rebounds.

ZAZA PACHULIA, C -- Pachulia, who signed a multi-year deal in the offseason, has been a starter or top backup for four seasons. He averaged 6.2 points and 5.7 rebounds in 19.1 minutes per game in 2008-09.

GAME 1: Indiana Pacers (0-0) @ Atlanta Hawks (0-0)

The Indiana Pacers visited the Phillips Arena to play the Hawks in their season and home opener. With the Hawks going up by a 15-point margin during the first quarter, it looked as if the Pacers were already done for the night, but with the help of SF Danny Granger (34 pts, 8 rebs, 5 asts) and PF Troy Murphy (20 pts, 19 rebs) the Pacers made this one into a nail-biter right to the very end.

The Hawks got help from their bench which scored 41 points for them. Leading the second unit were SG Jamal Crawford (21 pts, 3 rebs, 4 ast) and PF Joe Smith (10 pts, 6 rebs). Crawford showed that he can fit right in with this team. Along with the newcomers on this roster, PG Jeff Teague (0 pts, 4 ast) logged in 6 minutes of playing time off the bench and showed his athleticism and quickness on the court.

The player of the game was PF Al Horford (18 pts, 14 rebs, 4 asts). Horford was 7-for-8 on the court and was the only Hawk who had over 6 rebounds in the game.

GAME 2: Washington Wizards (0-1) @ Atlanta Hawks (1-0)

The Wizards faced off against the Atlanta Hawks Friday night. This was the Hawks' first rival game of the season, and this rivalry game did not disappoint. The Hawks defense did not perform very well... for the second straight night in a row, they allowed more than 110 points to be scored.

For most of the game, the two teams stood toe-to-toe taking shot-for-shot. However, during the fourth quarter, the Wizards separated themselves and took a 18 pt lead with just about 10 minutes left to go. Not willing to give up, head coach Mike Woodson decided to implement a full court press and substituted his point guard Mike Bibby out for rookie point guard Jeff Teague in hopes of Teague's speed and quickness to energize both the offense and the defense. The plan worked for Woodson tonight as the Hawks came back from an 18-point deficit in the fourth quarter to defeat the Wizards.

The Hawks outrebounded the Wizards by more than 5 rebounds, as they had 43 while the Wizards were held to just 38. Again leading the Hawks in rebounds was C Al Horford (24 pts, 11 rebs). Horford would also lead the team that night in points.

The game went down right to the wire and the Hawks had to turn to their captain once again. SG Joe Johnson (21 pts, 6 rebs, 8 ast) would make the game-winning shot. JJ, accustomed to these situations, was given the ball with around 25 seconds left to go in the game. With only 0.3 seconds left on the clock, JJ shot a mid-range jumper in the face of the Wizards' Randy Foye to make the score 116-115. Joe Johnson would later be named the player of the game.

The Hawks almost lost tonight mainly because of the Wizards' PG Gilbert Arenas (34 pts, 1 reb, 15 ast, 1 stl). Mike Woodson just could not find a player to match up with Gilbert tonight, and they could not stop C Brendan Haywood (25 pts, 11 rebs) from dominating them inside. It is obvious that the Hawks need to improve their internal defense if they hope to compete against the most elite teams in the NBA.

Looking good thus far stat-wise matt... except for T. Murphy's rebs and Arenas assists.. Looks like you're have a blast with the game now.. Any concerns gameplay wise? or stats-wise?

No major concerns thus far. Again, great sliders... The only thing I worry about is the lag, and it's certainly not your fault... but I have the patch, and I have the game installed on my hard drive and I noticed it still lag for half a quarter against the game against the Pacers. Those lights were still on the court, and it was lagging the entire game... meh. I did not notice it too much in the Wizards game though, so hopefully it was just that one time. I'll see if I can get a few more games in tomorrow. I'm not used to playing these 12 minute quarters.

And also ... T. Murphy's rebound stat wasn't that bad. He's had nights like that in the past where he just dominated the paint and grabbed all the rebounds for the team! :ohno:

That's good to hear. Yeah, T. Murph is a beast! Have fun, looking forward to your results...

p.s.

Do you see a lot of alleyoops from CPU?

I only saw a couple... not too many. But the times I saw them came at very unrealistic times (in traffic)
