Can someone give me a few tips on offensive?
 

Can someone tell a few tips on how to become a better passer and runner in Madden? I'm an average player but I want to start getting more seriousbefore I go online and start playing. One last thing can u guys suggest any good realitics sliders?

I think the key to becoming a better passer is to understand the basics of the defense. Sounds cliche, but recognizing a blitz at the LOS and man/zone after the snap are keys to finding open receivers. Knowing when to test the deep ball, when to check down, and when to take sack all help as well.

Beyond that, once you start recognizing what is happening, and understand what routes you have in place to beat what the defense is running, you'll start to see improvement.

Running is a little tricker. In general you want to get to open space, but you cannot force where your hole/lane is. Try and follow lead blocks when you have them, and don't outrun your blockers.

To become a better passer, learn to recognize coverage (man / zone), learn to throw against zones (Cover 2, 3, and 4), learn to read your pass progressions correctly (hot reads for blitzes, then one side to the other, or short to long), and learn what hot routes break each of the coverages on defense that you recognize.

To become a better runner, use RT for outside / edge runs (speed), or run up the gut (my favorite personally) and follow the blockers (no speed / RT). Harder to do against someone who is good in manual coverage.

there are two big tips to improving you passing game in order to get you to the next level. The first ia to be aware and know your plays. That may sound simple, but knowing where all of your receivers are supposed to be is very important and not everyone can do this. this is what separates Brady and Manning and Montana from players like Rex Grossman and other bad QBs. Once you start to feel comfortable with you plays, you now need to learn how to read a defense.

A few years ago Ron Jaworksi of ESPN was asked what it was like to be an NFL QB. what goes through your head as you break the huddle and i have taken his advice to heart and it helped me so much in my passing game. He said every time you break the huddle you have to identify the strong safety and the mike [middle] linebacker as they are the key to every defensive play. You should know your routes already, know where your guy are going to be. your job is to determine where the Defense is going and going to be. Playing QB is instinctual. you have to make a read, make a decision and be confident in that decision.

So you have to read if the strong safety is dropping into man or zone or blitz and what kind of zone if he is dropping into zone. It he dropping into a cover one, two, or three or a hook zone [in madden these are the yellow ones] sometimes they will go to the flats of [purple zones, can't think of name right this second] but not very often. Thre are tell tale signs of these zones and gong into practice and choosing these plays and looking for these signs will help you out. Next once you know where the SS is going, determine where the MLB is going and you should have a good idea of how the defense is forming. You do all of his as you are making your 3 or 5 step drop. You have to practice a lot and learn the signals and make good choices.

Once you can do both of these things your game should be greatly improved. Also, despite the claims, Madden 10 has timing passes. the orange receiver on any given play is designed, when not bumped at the line, to have the ball thrown at the after the completion of the drop back of the QB.

Get your timing down, know where your guys are going to be and have a good idea on how to read the D. I guess the last advice I can give, and this is my style of play, is be more conservative. you don't have to win the game on any given pass most games. Don't do something stupid with the ball like throw into double coverage o force a ball to a covered receiver just because you are afraid to get sacked. Ball security is just as important as solid QB play.

Regarding running the ball, follow your lead blockers, avoid the sprint button and mess with the sliders. The default sliders have your offensive linemen blowing blocks and not blocking all the time. runnign isn't too hard adn if you can average over 3ypc you are doing well. anything over 3.33ypc is "unstoppable" This means, on average, you should be gettign a first down after 3 straight hand offs. mixed with solid passing and you should have a potent offense.

That's interesting about the orange lines. I thought they were hot reads, but looking at some routes right now they are definitely not the hot reads. I don't think they are timing patterns either though. Isn't a timing pattern where the QB throws the ball before the WR has made their cut? i.e. The QB is throwing to a spot and the WR is supposed to be there at a given time? Madden doesn't really have this. It can be done, but it's very, very hard and highly unpredictable due to the window for making the timed pass (what I call route based passing). I'm by no means a football guru, but this is what I have known a timed pass to be, please correct if wrong.

I noticed the QB's dropback is orange just like the line, so I think you must be right regarding the synchronization of the drop back and the orange route itself.

That is more route based passing and on the deeper routes it is true that you may throw before the cut.

Use the 49ers [I know other teams have this play, bu I know it is the 49ers book], call by play type and select standard pass. Call the first play, Y Shallow Cross. Your TE is your primary WR on this play, but at the snap of the ball watch the #CB and how he covers the WR and how the safety plays on the ball. there are some tell tale signs on if you should throw "deep" [15-20 yard pass] to your WR or just dump it off to your TE. Also on the snap, if you can judge a blitz you can hit your hot receiver, the #2 TE for a quick gain over the middle. If the CB and safety are floating back into coverage hit your WR for a big gain, if not your TE orange receiver should be wide open for a catch and turn up field. With a fast TE like Vernon Davis, you can even score on plays like these.

When passing, give yourself a couple reads. Meaning, there should be one or two dump off guys (running slants or crosses, or drifting into the flats) and one or two deep guys. If you have extra time at the line after hot routing your dump offs, put somebody in motion to see if the D is in man or zone.

After the snap, if it's a blitz, look to your dump off guys for an easy couple yards. If you have more time and don't know yet, figure out if it's zone or man. If it's man, look for your fast receiver to eventually get free. If it's zone, time your pass to squeeze it in between defenders.


When running, follow your blockers and do not use speed burst until you are free and clear. Know the HBs attributes so you know to truck/juke/spin/stiffarm/cover the ball when appropriate. Also, take a look at the other teams players' attributes too. Run away from stud defenders like Haynesworth, Polamalu, Ware, etc...
