changing player position and progression question...

hello, so here is my situation:
I play with the Lions, we've done well for oursevles and matt stafford is up to a 92 rating (5th highest rated qb in my franchise league) but now his contract is expiring and he wants a full 20mill more than the top rated QBs in my franchise are getting

now I like him I'd like to keep him but I dont want to have to blow my wad like that so I was considering doing something I've seen posted here, something I've never done in a football game and change his postion to a kicker, advance to offseason and then re-sign him to a fair deal for his skill level, I am NOT going to sign him to a 7 year 4 mil deal, I have every intention of giving him top 5 money but I dont want to get his ratings all screwed up by doing this. anyone seen any quirkiness come from playing with positions like this :y11:?

Just throw the franchise tag on him. After the resigning period is over offer him a contract and he should be very more negotiable:)

On Topic though I dont think his ratings will change.

If his rating is too low for a kicker, like say 15 or something, he'll simply disappear IIRC.

He'll retain his stats, but he will progress his kicking stats.

There's really no way around it, but you have to pay him.

To open up more CAP room, just find the guys that have the highest CAP hits, and resign them to longer contracts, or trade them to another team and take a younger player (better scenario) but who needs to develop. It's pretty easy to stay under the CAP unless you go hogwild on your players and try to have too many stars. Kind of the whole reason of the CAP, to keep that from happening.

indeed, I ended up simming and not saving to see the impact, turned out he wasnt gonna progress anyway so I changed him to a kicker and gave him a blockbuster deal for a kicker at 7 years, 92mil and then moved him back...but it wouldnt let me give him much in bonus money...not that it matters cause the cap hit is actually the combined value of both. coulda sworn the cap hit should only be the salary and the bonus should be what keeps you from ditching/trading him without consequence

ended up having to do that with my young stud tight end...bastard didnt wanna play for me despite oodles of success on my team...I wish the game would make it more clear what a player wants sometimes.

7 years, 92mil

Eli Manning just commanded a 100 mil deal. I think that 6 or so years from now, if Stafford progressed to where he's at in your chise he would at least be making 100 mil (especially since player salaries increase every year).
