Basically when you are near the out of bounds area, depending on how high or low the slider is, will determine how easily you can step out of bounds. If it's at 0, then you could just run out of bounds with no "force field" to keep you in check(which is realistic because there is no force field in real life haha)
If it's kind of high then you hit this invisible wall unless you really really try to go out.

ndhusker90, given your explanation, why do you think they even put this in the game. Sorry if I come off as clueless but I'm scratching my head wondering why they didn't just make it 0 and not have a slider for it. Is it to make the game feel more like an arcade game? I'm trying to figure out why I would want it higher so I can adjust my sliders. I'm afraid I might be overlooking the obvious. Your thoughts are appreciated.

Cane, I'll try to answer your question to the best of my ability.
I would like to preface this by saying I'm not 100% that is what the Boundary Force Field means, it is speculation(given that EA has not provided ANY explanation of what that means, but I believe I saw someone say what it was a while back)
It is ridiculous, I suppose there are a few moments where you may unintentionally go out of bounds due to a game issue(maybe lag? IDK), and the force field would somehow prevent that...but it's really a non-issue if that's what their angle was.
I really have no clue why they put that in the game.
And if I am wrong about what the Force Field thing is, please correct me.

Thanks ndhusker. I previously had mine set at 25. I've moved it to 10 since reading your first post. I'm not sure I've noticed a difference but then again I've only played one game since.

it makes the game more like RL. Players going out of bounds before the ball is thrown in things like that. I have mine turned up becuase it bugs me that my players seem to just walk out, like they have no brain. Players just dont walk out of bounds five times a game...

It also has to do with driving the lane. The player has a sort of "bubble" around him. The higher the settings, the harder it is to drive the lane, the lower it's easier, but more of a likelihood of getting stole from or blocked on the layup.

so lowering this will give less of those annoying contact animations?

I do not know, but the game doesn't play well on a low setting.

I agree w/your assessment. I put it to 100 and saw few players drive the lane. Once lowered back to 50, drives increased

This makes more sense than my explanation.

If that is the case would you say that there was more perimeter shooting by the computer with it set higher? Maybe if this is the case that would get the computer to take more 3's.

It's the out of bounds thing...this setting has been in games for a long time, it was in NBA Live 95 but you could only have it "on" or "off." It's just how easy it is to step out of bounds. Reason being, is there's some momentum issues and chained animations that can carry a player out of bounds if performed too closely to the line, so this is to prevent those mistakes from happening.

So are we at a consensus with the force field definition? Does it deal with the out of bounds animations or with a bubble around the players? I'm trying to figure out why the CPU players seem to just drive pass me even with good defensive position. I'm playing on AC…
