3 years ago, Stevens faced the Caps who were, for the first time, being coached by Bruce Boudreau. Now, the Caps come to Philly to take on the Flyers' new coach. Funny how that works out.

Took them long enough. Stevens is an awful coach.

I've been hearing a lot of it has to do with the younger players not wanting to work their butts off. Laviolette is going to bust some heads and change the culture there because the roster is good enough to make a strong run in the playoffs IMO.

Yeah I heard Mike Richards and co. are pretty big on the Philly nightlife.

Stevens' monotone voice can't keep them in line.

            Also, handle your booze Richards.

I know Ovechkin kills it, that pic with him and Markov...lol. Kovy can kill it too even though he's a family man now. Of course these are Russians we're talking about.

I don't think Stevens is a terrible coach, but I don't think he's the guy who will lead an NHL team to a championship. The work ethic for the team has been terrible on this losing streak.

Personally I think I would've gone to John Stevens and told him he was incredibly close to being sacked and if he didn't start winning he was gone. Maybe then he'd stop being a *****. x_x

Something had to be done...You know things are bad when Asham looks to be your best scorer...The team doesn't look right.

Can't say its the Gagne injury...Giroux hasn't progressed. Parent is awful. Carter and Richards look weak.

Not to mention starting Boucher instead of Emery in the last game- but then again it was highly doubtful Emery would have won with NO GOALS scored.

Now they're getting a coach who has won a Stanley Cup which can only help. And someone who might light a fire under the complacency...

it took them long enough to realize that he wasnt the right guy for the job. The flyers have a good core and many promising young players to do well this year. Stevens has no drive to want the team to do successful. He is very laid back and has no control over what is going on with his team and everyone is just out there on the ice and off doing whatever they want. What kind of winning mentallity is that ?

they had to do something right, they're a win now team and they're not in the playoffs right now so they need to do somthing and i guess they thought a change in coaching would help them turn it up

john stevens wasn't a bad coach but peter laviolette is much better. this was a great move by flyers management, and with the team they have they should go deep into the playoffs. don't get me wrong i'm def. not a fan of them, but this could be a big move for them considering how brutal they've been so far this year.

                        Re: Flyers fire John Stevens

Everyone is painting this team as some huge underachiever, but it was just before we hit this very dry spell that we had won something like 8 of 9 games. It's amazing what a losing streak can do to your team and the perception of it.

With that said, I don't and didn't disagree with the firing of John Stevens. I don't think he was the man to lead the team to a Cup. He can lead to the playoffs, but I don't know if he was gonna be the coach to take us all the way. Laviolette is proven, plain and simple. The 'Canes weren't some group of All-Stars either, he got the most out of them when they won it all.

The Flyers need to get a little streak going to gain back confidence then put in the work to be considered a top team again because right now they are not.
