    3D and The Show...2011?

The big thing this year will be 3D going mainstream...just see all the TVs coming out and ESPN announcing a 3D channel starting in June 2010.

I think baseball is a great sport for 3D (the ball flight lends quite nicely to 3D I think). Since PS3 has already demo'ed 3D, and The Show is a Sony Developed game, do you think we will be able to see The Show in 3D for 2011, and would you even like to play in 3D?

I think it would be great...the batter/pitcher duel would add depth to the pitches, and a broadcast fielding cam would be great with the ball in 3D.

Yeah, I wonder if certain camera angles will be altered in their broadcast-ed games to capture the "wow" factor of a liner headed at the screen, or a lineman going into your living room for a sack. Or snack, whichever lol.

This hd technology is over whelming. I feel bad for the guys that dropped big bucks on led tv's, while the next "new" thing is freakin 3d.

I refuse to have to wear gay looking glasses while watching TV. How sad was it that they played the cowboys game in 3d within the stadium and people actually watched a screen of 3d film of the game instead of watching the dame 3d players in front of them!

It's already working we have a setup at CES with the Show in 3D and it looks amazing. (Yes I'm a homer)

well Sony showed video of an *unnamed* baseball game running in 3D at IFA 2009...

I was hoping this year .... but maybe next year we get to try to hit Justin Verlander's 100mph faseball in 3D using the new Playstation Motion Controller......but most likely we'll just get scared sh1tless and move the f'out the way.

Sweet. I noticed they had Killzone 2 on there as well. (has to look AMAZING). And also Gran Turismo 5 would be epic.

This question is more for Russell, do you have to select a 3D option in the game options? Or is it already programmed to work when 3D mode is selected on select TVs?

Cause I noticed KZ2 there, and dont recall options, unless it is a patch etc?

playing a 3D game for long periods will do damage on the eyes.

I haven't seen a 3D movie in theaters since Spy Kids 3 (I was little at the time :P)

so I don't know how 3D looks today but it can do major damage on your eye sight.

The technology has come a long way since then.

This tech that Sony uses, is an active shutter technology in the glasses, which will not harm your eyes any more than they claim playing or staring at a TV would. Since they refresh at a fast rate which gives your eyes much more comfort since it refreshes just as the human eye does naturally. It also allows for the best color fidelity.

The older style polarized ones have a tendency to make your eyes sore in some people, I have no problems, and it was the ones they used for Avatar at the theaters, and I was able to watch all 2:45:00 of the movie just fine.

It is a myth about eyes being damaged. Just messes with your visual perception of things for a bit if you are not used to it. Or cause headaches in some people who are not used to it.

So in order for people to play 3D games the best possible way, we're going to have to buy SONY HDTV's?

and will the room lighting be a factor in this?

No, all the big TV makers are doing it.

Phillips, Panasonic, Samsung, Sony, Mitsubishi, etc.

They are all deciding which eyeglass tech to go with as well. Sony for now has the active shutter, which has a slight flicker some notice, but that is due to the LCD response time (4ms), where plasma doesn't have that response time (.001ms), so the Panasonic didn't flicker with the same eye tech.

But all that can be fine tuned before it is a hard release by Sony.

Room lighting wont have a factor it in. Any more than how you like it when you watch movies or play games now.

Here is a list of some "3D ready" TVs... If you bought one recently (in the last 3 years), you may already be all set. Will just need the glasses tech then.

If their TV does not support it, then yes. It is the price of admission with anything technology these days.

Just as you had to buy and HDTV to play HD games/watch BR, DVD player to watch DVDs, etc etc.

For those in the market of a new TV, and they want 3D, this is something to be mindful of. Some may have already have bought said TV since the compatibility spreads alll the way back to 2007 on some brands.

Pretty soon, like anything else, every new TV will have the support anyhow.
