    2010 Atlanta Braves

Okay, so I know there was a 2k10 topic already for the Braves, but I can't seem to find it. And when I see "2009 Atlanta Braves", I see disappointment mostly because of our little run at the end of the season ended with no playoff berth.

So now we look forward to spring training where Jason Heyward will most likely shine. Where he will be determined the starter in the majors or in the minors.

Also, I'd like to open the topic up by posting a link to how we can help with the relief efforts in Haiti while also getting something else in return, Help Haiti, get Yunel Escobar Autograph. I plan on purchasing one myself soon as soon as I figure out how I can protect something like that. I highly encourage every one else to help also!

Doing some reading today about top farm systems and Atlanta came in 5th and the article said we would be higher if not for a "disastrous 2009 draft". I didn't think our draft was too terrible, I think Mike Minor can be a legit 3/4 starter for us in the not too distant future. The article also said we have three Latin American arms that should be our 2-3-4 starters by 2013 behind Hanson. If we can hang on to Jurrjens or if Minor develops, our rotation should be set for the next decade barring injury.

      Imagine this 2013 rotation:

      Hanson
      Jurrjens
      Teheran
      Vizcaino
      Delgado

That has the POTENTIAL to be devastating.

Teheran and Vizcaino, potentially, I think are better than Jurrjens. Minor should also be considered for that fifth spot, and maybe Delgado goes to the bullpen like it seems he's much better suited for.

Well it's definitely a good "problem" to have.

I sincerely hope Heyward is as good as these scouts are projecting him.

The only concern I have w/our farm system is the multiple LHs we have. McCann, Freeman, Heyward, Schafer...all lefties.

I don't really see it as a problem. It's not like they really struggle against lefties. The only year McCann had a drop off in his performance against lefties was last year, and that was a down year for him with his eye issues and all. Heyward is also a lefty that can hit lefties. And if Freeman can fully develop, he should'nt be that big of a problem either.

Really right now, McCann and Heyward can hit lefties. Freeman is a B+ prospect that should be able to develop into a power hitter that can hit 40+ HR's each year (if fully developed) and Schafer's verdict is still out, but yeah... he's a regular lefty hitter.

So, some of the future projected lineup could look something like this...

                LHP Schafer
                RHP Prado
                LHP Heyward*
                LHP Freeman
                LHP McCann*

                RHP Escobar

                *-Can hit lefties

                    Re: 2010 Atlanta Braves

Matt, I've personally always preferred a balanced lineup - I don't like the influx of lefties. McCann's struggles I'll give the benefit of the doubt but the other prospects haven't faced major league pitching and their benefits of scouting reports.

There aren't many LHs that can hit against lefties, plain and simple; I don't think it'll be a problem but I do have concern. Then again, with all of the pitching coming maybe it won't matter.

Braves make offer to Johnny Damon. Thoughts?

I love it. For 2 million? Thats a bargain. Play him in LF and bat him lead-off. Leave Heyward at Gwinnett. Play Diaz/Melky in RF. Save Heyward until June like we did with Hanson last season. When Heyward is ready, trade Melky and Diaz becomes 4th outfielder.

                            1. Damon/LF
                            2. Prado/2B
                            3. Chipper/3B
                            4. McCann/C
                            5. Glaus/1B
                            6. Escobar/SS
                            7. McLouth/CF
                            8. Melky/Diaz/RF
                            9. Pitcher

                            I LOVE that lineup.

I think getting Damon for that price and allow Heyward to develop till June or so is a good ideas.
