Saving the JagZone (Madden 2010)

GAME: Madden NFL 2010
DIFFICULTY: All-Pro
SLIDERS: None
MINUTES PER QUARTER: 12 Mins, 20 Secs Accelerated

PRE-SEASON: I actually play Pre-Season to determine who gets cut and who stays. I won't recap each Pre-Season game, instead, I'll recap the Pre-Season as a whole.
TRADES: Only used through Trade Block
PLAY CALL: I use "Ask Madden" and I pick from the three plays given for both offense and defense. Must use Offensive and Defensive Playbook of Coordinators.
HOT ROUTES: Used only on one player per play.

GAME PLAY: I sim all kickoffs and punts in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd quarters so some can be returned for TDs by both myself and the computer. I return all kickoffs and punts in 4th quarter and Overtime. I sim all Extra Point attempts.

SEASON: I only keep the minimum required players on roster (2 QBs, 3 RBs, 1 FB, etc.) so that Pre-Season does have an impact of who I release. In terms of roster transactions, I never consider the overall ratings, just the current and past statistics of the players.

SCOUTING: No scouting. I also don't follow the predicted drafted round (IE. If Sam Bradford was predicted to go in the 6th round and I wanted him, I'd draft him in the 1st round to make it more realistic. If he dropped to, say the 6th round, I would not pick him up. The Draft's a crapshoot in real life anyways.

BACKGROUND: I simmed the first season, and I will be using this past season's statistics, not those that occured in Madden.

History

2009
After a dismal 8-8 season, the Jacksonville Jaguars had a few bright spots, as QB David Garrard and RB Maurice Jones-Drew made the Pro-Bowl. However, a lackluster effort on defense and a loss of identity on offense lead to a four game skid in the waning games of the season. For a team that - at one point - held their own destiny amidst the top of the Wild Card spot, the Jaguars will have much to prove in 2010.

Season in Review

February 7, 2010
Jacksonville, FL

(AP)
"And with the QB Kneel by Drew Brees, the New Orleans Saints are your 2010 Super Bowl Champions!"

Those uttered words in front of millions across the nation ended the 2009 NFL season. However, for the Jacksonville Jaguars, it is just the beginning of a new face lift. For a team that was 8-8 and fighting for a playoff spot, Jacksonville has a lot of work to do.

It has been stated time and time again that Coach Jack Del Rio will remain with the Jaguars for at least the 2010 season, meaning that his coaching staff will also be retained. However, the players of the Jacksonville Jaguars are not guaranteed such luxury.

While many teams will battle for High End free agents this off-season, the Jaguars will have to fight for its life - literally - as a spiraling economy is affecting ticket sales, and ultimately, the presence of a football team in Jacksonville.

The Jaguars were among the bottom teams in the NFL in ticket sales and attendance, blacking out their two pre-season games and seven of eight regular season games. They need to sell tickets this season... and fast.

Jaguars win Tomlinson Sweepstakes!

Welcome to Jacksonville LT2

March 16, 2010
Jacksonville, FL

(AP)
LaDainian Tomlinson is officially a Jacksonville Jaguar. In an undisclosed two year deal LT2 agreed to terms to back up Maurice Jones-Drew. The Jaguars will benefit from this signing in two ways: First, economically this will definitely draw national attention and could possibly bring fans to the stadium. And second, they Jaguars will have a powerful 1-2 punch in the backfield, similar to their 2007 Playoff Campaign with Fred Taylor and MJD. Tomlinson is coming off a career low and injury ridden season of 223 carriers, 730 yards, and a 3.3 average.

Tomlinson is already coming in with a boat load of respect, as CB Derek Cox has agreed to let him wear #21 for the year. Cox will wear #37.

Additionally, the Jaguars inked a seven year deal with OL Eugene Amano who is expected to start at center for the offensive line.

2010 NFL Draft Recap

Can this Christian Boy lead the Jags out of economic hell?

April 24, 2010
New York City, NY

(AP)
...And with the 26th pick in the NFL Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars select Quarterback, Tim Tebow!

Possibly the most expected pick this year, the Jaguars selected hometown hero, Tim Tebow with their 26th pick in the NFL Draft. Tebow is as raw as sushi, but has all the intangibles to be quite the NFL prospect. His potential is unlimited. Unfortunately, so is the risk. He is the definition of a boom or bust player after four years in Urban Meyer's spread offense. But the 2007 Heisman winner is poised and ready to impress his already growing fan base in Jacksonville.

Said Tebow, "This is an honor. A complete honor and I'm very glad to call Jacksonville my home. It's a definite homecoming for me and I'm definitely ready to practice."

As for incumbent starting QB David Garrard, he will have to pack his bags as the Jags stayed busy this Draft weekend, unleashing him to the Minnesota Vikings in a trio of trades. Garrard is coming off a 15 TD, 10 INT season in which he passed for 3597 yards. He will be replacing the retired (for now) Brett Favre. The Jaguars received a second round pick (47 overall) in exchange for Garrard.

In an effort to provide an adequate back up plan for Tebow, the Jaguars also traded RB Rashad Jennings, WR Mike Thomas, and WR Jarrett Dillard to the Seattle Seahawks for QB Seneca Wallace and a fourth round pick (114 overall). All three were rookies last year for the Jags, but became available for trade after signing two receivers via free agency.

The third trade of the brings in a dynamic player who will also put fans in the stadium. Announced after the 2010 NFL Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars received RB/PR Reggie Bush from the 2010 Super Bowl Champions, the New Orleans Saints. Bush is slated to earn just under eight million in 2010, but has yet to live up to his expectations of an every down back. The Saints were able to trade him away after the success of RB Pierre Thomas and Mike Bell on their Championship run and will receive a 2nd and 5th round pick in the 2011 NFL Draft. And who knows, maybe Kim Kardashian will have a few appearances in Jacksonville.
