    Stealing Home

Hey guy's quick question. I am 4 1/2 years into my RTTS campaign
and I lead the league in stolen bases but I have never been able to steal home. Is it even possible in a video game and have any of you all done it?
In Loving memory of my "Cricket" 1/2/96 - 11/19/2012

My heart and soul hurt for your lost presence in my life.

I think it counts if you started to steal home while the pitchers pitches the ball to home, and you made it home with a passed ball by the catcher.

        Yep.
Yes, I've been here since 2003. No, I don't post much. I'm too busy playing the games.

Well, take a look at the number of times someone has stolen home in real life. How many times did Rickey Henderson do it? It's not very easy to do. You need to have a guy who is VERY fast, and you also need a pitcher who is pitching from the full windup and has a slow pitching delivery. So in that regards, it is kind of realistic that stealing home is not easy to do.

In the carribean world series this year freddy guzman for the dominican team stole home w/ a runner on first and a pickoff to first base.
Maybe with the new pickoff system this year you can read the pitcher and take off like he did.

I want it to be hard thats not the problem I was just wondering if it was possible in 09 with the AI and if anybody had actually done it. That would at least give me hope, don't get me wrong I am still going to try it until I pull it off one way or another. That is one of the things that I love about this game the harder it is the harder I try to be good.

I did it unintentionally on a suicide squeeze. I missed the bunt and slid in under the tag, lol!

Speaking of which, I hope the catchers are less unaware of what's going on this year. I remember doing that once or twice in my franchise, and it just annoyed me. Also when the throw from the OF beats the runner easy but the catcher takes forever to tag. Passed balls or wild pitches and the catcher lazily attempting to tag are the only way to do it I think.

They did a lot of work with the catcher's position this year. With Maurer on the cover it was a good year to tidy things up in that area.

I know I pimp this out all the time but I did this exact same thing in MLB 08, only I did it completely by accident and it won me the World Series. I frantically tried to send the runner back but he wouldn't go and I was so mad about it that it took me a second to realize that he'd actually made it.

                              Re: Stealing Home

I've kind of done it in my RTTS, it's cheese, but I'd do it when I was on 3rd and my team could use a run. The thing is they don't award you with a stolen base.

Take a 3 step lead towards home and hold R1 to lean while simultaneously holding the left analog stick towards 3rd base, this prevents you from being picked off. So at the moment that the pitcher attempts to pick you off you jam the left analog toward home. The ball is first thrown to 3rd basemen of course and he then throws it to the catcher who attempts the tag. Even if your player is very fast you won't make it every time though. However,
it's such cheese that your baserunner will begin to retreat to the base before the pitcher has even started his motion, so it's impossible to be picked off.

Going home is the only situation this exploit works, I'd use the anti-pickoff everytime every time I stole a base though. Made stealing bases much easier. I know, I know, but once I started to do it I couldn't stop lol. If there's any consolation I was only able to beat Henderson's record by like 5 stolen bases lol.

Shed a single tear when I witnessed the A's win their first postseason series in my life as a fan.
