No. They do have a few actual minor AHL'ers on the minor league rosters but its not half as fleshed out as EA. The official rosters are also from back in december or so.

They have a minor system that is suppose to be the AHL, however, unlike EA, they don't have the license so they are unable to put any player in the game that has not played a game in the NHL. So their minor league system acts more as a storage place, though the game does sim stats for players in the minors.

although.. go to each teams minor team in the game. then go to that teams website. check "in the system" guys who are not allowed in the game, are there. the birthdays, ages, height, and weight match up. just change the name.

yeah a bit of a pain, but the players and top prospects are there. just gotta take 5 mins and figure them out.

not all will match.. but all the main ones should. then, match up ages and positions and make others into someone real.

Cool, MVP was the same way. I remember with most of the minor league players.

Wonder what it would cost 2k to actually have the AHL represented in its game, or is this another situation where EA rolled up dumptrucks full of cash for an exclusive license?

If I'm not mistaken, EA wrapped up the AHL license after Gretzky Hockey was no more. Even if they didn't I couldn't see 2K touching it, given their current status.

Yeah I wasn't too sure if it was an actual exclusive or not. Though when you look at Take Two as a whole, with franchises like Bioshock, Grand Theft Auto, and upcoming titles like Mafia II Max Payne 3 and LA Noire. There's no way in hell that the're not at least making money. Granted Rockstar and 2k Marin/Boston (or whatever the're calling those two studios these days) are different divisions but you'd think if they actually wanted to put some money into 2ksports and VC and compete with their other sports titles not only with EA but with Sony's San Diego studio, aside from NBA2k that seems to really be the only sports title that gets the support and development treatment it deserves, they prolly have the resources to do it.

Its really frustrating as a former diehard, to not see NHL2k much further along than it is at this point in the current consoles life cycle.

Yep I think thats correct either way I believe its a exclusive for EA when they went wild trying to sign all sports a while back like espn ect , but they hardly ever used espn ?

That is a good question. I would think that the AHL would enjoy the publicity....so I can't see them asking for much. Ofcourse from 2K's perspective, would the licencing actually sell many units??...enough to cover the cost of the license??

But like you mention, the point may be moot if EA has exclusive rights.

I live in a minor league town, so I enjoyed both MVP 05 and NHL 08 that introduced licensed minor league teams. But I will be honest that the novelty wore off fairly quickly. A few games are fun, but then I ready to go back to the big leagues. So while it is a cool addition, if a game doesn't have real minors, I am not heart broken.

im pretty sure ea owns the ahl license.. 2k cant use it..

EA owns the license, they got it after Sony stopped making the Gretzky games.
