Looking for someone to play a season with

I posted this in the online section but you don't need to the online features to play a season. We could simply play offline and send the file through email and a flash drive. Here is my original post

I played and commished organized sim leagues for 5 years or so but gave it up because of all the people that play with that "win at all cost" mentality. I would enjoy playing a dynasty type game with some other mature baseball fans. I don't know how the show online leagues are but I am more compelled to just play the game offline and email the file around to 1 to 3 other guys. I am a bit weary about online play because one bit of lag can ruin a game. The main thing I look for are guys that can accept losing games and playing the game as a baseball fan and not as a gamer trying to win. I would be interested in anyone who has a similar operation going that I could join but if not here is what I was thinking...

Either (1) 162 game season or (3) 54 game seasons. Either option you get stats of a 162 game season with the 3x54 season equalling 162 games. I would love to stay paced with the real MLB season and force any trades in our season that occurs in the real season.

I am a HUGE dodger fan from the Los Angeles area so I am looking for 1-3 more guys to fill other divisions, preferably split between the AL and NL as in 1 user NL team and 1 user AL team or 2 NL users and 2 AL users. Anymore than that it gets hard to keep the season moving smoothly from my experiences.

I realize I sound like I am an anal 40 year old geek from this email but I am a 22 year old laid back geek who just can't get enough baseball. If you are interested or you have any tips for me in running a organized season, please contact me.

Also it would be best to find someone who was a fan of an AL team other than NYY, Boston, or Det. I know they 3 of the most popular AL teams but they all play the dodgers this season so if another team was chosen we could avoid playing one another.

Jon here, in So Cal. ALSO a HUGE Dodger fan so I am already a bit bummed that apparently the Dodgers would already be taken but I would be really interested in playing in an offline, email the file league with other mature, sim style players.

I could live with playing with St Louis or the Cubs in the NL and with the Angels, Twins, Rays, or Mariners in the AL.

I am interested as the Yankees, but I was wondering how this would work exactly?

I like playing offline better, just because it avoids lag and all but still not certain on how it will work.

The only alternate that I would like to be able to make trades that arent actually in real life. And we should be able to vote on a transaction before it is made.

So if you think that is an unfair trade the others will veto the trades.

The thing is if we have teams with inter-lapping games it would be nearly impossible to get them in. The only option I can think of would be to sim the games or splits them up. For instance if someone played with the tigers, the dodgers tiger series could be simmed or maybe the detroit owner play 2 games and the dodger owner plays two games.

I guess there is another option (haha) which would be playing the game online vs the opponent and then simming the game to get the correct win and loss. We could just incorporate the stats of the real game to the totals at the end of the season. I realize it wont show on the screen that Kemp hit 33 jacks when he really hit 34 or whatever but we will know in our heads.

I really want to max this out as 3 guys as it is kind of a pain to keep it moving slowly. I know it's not really balanced but it lets one more dude in on the fun. I really would prefer people play with a team they are a passionate fan of as it definitely ads extra excitement and incentive to finish as well. The most important thing here is actually getting through a season with the same guys the entire way. It gets really hard to keep playing when you know you arent going to make the playoffs. Thats why I want mature, dedicated diehard baseball fans that love the game win or lose

I think simming the games that are against the other players in theh franchise is the best way to go. It motivates you to play all the games you can leading up to the series against the other team. The players that are hot and well rested will perform when you sim games. So if you managed your team right and played well leading up to the series you should get a pretty realistic showing.

I think that we should let the Home team play the overlapping games. I think we should avoid simming any games except the All Star Game.

really love this idea Allan, and would love to play. Since BK would take the Jays, my 2nd choice would be the A's or Id take any team

Re: Looking for someone to play a season with

Thanks but this isn't really an idea. I did this last year with a coworker of mine but he isn't such a big baseball fan and I was suspicious of him restarting games when things weren't going his way. You guys might want to work something on your own and then maybe we can all compare stats.

I will keep racking my brain to figure something out but the goal is to run a smooth season with users that are extremely passionate about baseball and staying true to the game. It is nice to have your accomplishments be recognized and have some competition with stats and records. I actually want to do this for seasons to come and log all stats and records. I have been playing baseball games for the past 10 years and don't see that stopping anytime soon.

I have actually completed a league called the 162 where 30 guys played a full 162 game season with MVP 2005. I believe we only replaced 8 owners or so and it was a blast. However, online baseball is pretty bad and can affect crucial parts or crucial games. If anyone has any ideas please let them fly. I really can't see this working with more than 2 people realistically unless we sim after a certain period of time of a game not being completed which I do not want to do. But like I said maybe we can just lump our stats together from different leagues.

Trying to make things as sim as possible I will want to play with setting where there is no vibration around the strikezone let alone a strikezone box. Obviously you can play with whatever settings you want as long as it is a reasonable difficulty for yourself. You shouldn't be winning over 100 games unless you are the Yankees or some other great team. This isn't about winning and losing as much as realistic baseball.

right totally understand where your coming from. I was thinking for head to head matchups we could do something where the home team you play the first 5 innings or last 5 innings your choice, and the other user plays 4 innings. Example If I was to play the first 5 innings I would mark down all the stats and then basicly the other owner would go from there completing the last 4 as an example and we would then total the complete stats for the 9 innings played. It was the first thing that popped in the head that way both guys get to play the game in a sense.

In order for it to work with more guys you could use the following rule to reduce or eliminate slow play:

Every game is played in it's schedule order within the game. If, for example, LA and SF have the first game in the daily schedule list whomever is playing that game plays it and emails it to the next games player (Cin-Atl, for example) AND the guy AFTER that game (Mil-stl).
If the Cin-Atl player does NOT get his game in within a certain time then the Mil-Stl game player has the option to play OR sim the Cin-Atl game and then play his own scheduled game, and then emails the league file to the next two guys on the schedule, where the same rule would apply.

This is pretty good mate. I think the person could straight up save the game in the middle of the 4th and then send the entire file to the other guy which would keep all the stats from the first half.

I was thinking the same thing. Only thing is people can't play other peoples games. I want to avoid simming at all cost but either the user plays of the comp plays for him. I don't even want this to be an option though because this is how people lose interest. I could see it now "well the computer has already played 10 of my games, they aren't even really my stats" then just giving up. I want ever game to be played by the user. Thats why I am aiming for a 3 person MAX. I would actually prefer 2 to avoid having any simming or playing the computer for the other users team. Especially in the playoffs, at least if we are opposite leagues it is the final series but in a divisional or championship series it could really f things up.

Sorry to all that were interested but me and bond are going to run one together with the jays and dodgers which works perfectly since the two teams don't play one another. If someone wants to do an online league deal I am still interested though to get my more competitive fix.
