    Chris Dickerson a D potential???

anybody with insight on this? Laynce Nix, Reds LF who is no shoo-in to even make the team, is a C potential...

why would a 27 year old rook who has shown flashes of greatness and could blossom this season get a D? I'm a little confused...

Train him....hope he does indeed do well and he could jump 1 or 2 potentials this year.

ive heard rumors that potential ratings can change now but I did not know that...they didn't change in '09 that I noticed, but I only played one season if that...

so I could start a franchise in '10 and if Ryan Church (also a D potential in the new game) or Dickerson performs well or I train him right both of their potential ratings could change to a B or C?

I'm 90% sure it's possible. I was concentrating so much on the fake minor league players.....I didn't even consider that the SCEA MLB players might be locked until you just brought it up.
        I'll PM Kolbe and ask.

Ryan Church has a D potential in the default rosters of the show 10? Really?

Chris Dickerson is a 27 year old OF with less than a year total experience in the majors...yet his has a D potential with the default rosters & yes Ryan Church as well...

They may have rated Church and Dickerson D's because they may have maximized their potential and they may believe them to have no significant roles in improving potential ratings. IMO Church should be a C as well as Dickerson. The knack on Dickerson has always been the same thing, he has good tools, but doesnt seem to be able to translate them. He cant hit lefties and his little cup of coffee proved little and he faced inferior pitchers in 31 games, end of the season games with no playoff implications. He is Willy Taveras with less speed and without a certain roster spot and his potential is limited. This is a game though and you can surely turn him into a resurgent player if you train him and roster him. Good luck.

so you can change potential ratings if you use the training program in the game properly and he performs well??...this was a big frustration in '09...I think Dickerson has gotten the shaft, and there is little evidence lately that he cannot hit lefties...he is an above average defensive CF & with average to above average speed...if he could hit for just a tad better power he'd really improve...the dude has always had a high on-base percentage...

What does potential determine anyway? I thought it was used to determine how much they improve in ability every year. So if that is correct, what would a D potential mean, minimal to no improvement? C would be average improvement, B and A would be your potential stars and super stars.

I could be wrong, but that is the way I would imagine it works.

                    yep....that's pretty much it.
                    D most likely degrades actually.

It's Kolbe I need to hear from.
He misunderstood my question to him and I re-sent it to clarify.
As soon as I hear.....I'll post it.
I think they may have made the real MLB players(non prospects)....potential irrelevant this year(or maybe it always was once they reached the MLB or a certain level)
Anyway...I'm just speculating....I'll definitely stay on it!

As a Reds fan, I have to say I can't argue with the D potential. Dickerson will likely never be much more than what he is. Does he have a chance of becoming a really good starter? Somewhat. But he is likely going to be just what he is: a slightly above average bat with good defensive skills.

o....k...so a 27 year old CF w/ an above average bat and good defensive skills should have a D potential? I could understand if he was 31 or 34 years old (maybe 1-2 seasons of mlb left) but he's not even hit his prime yet...I'd take a C potential at worst but a D...c'mon

It seems that the potential rating of several players appear to be out of whack, at least compared to how the system seemed to work last year. This occurs in both the Default and first online update. I'm sure it will be fixed or as Knight said it might not matter for mlb players.

I noticed that Pirate pitchers Paul Maholm, Zack Duke, Ross Ohlendorf and Kevin Hart all had D potential and became concerned but then I noticed that players such as Mark Reynolds, Adrian Gonzalez, Jonathan Broxton, Robinson Cano, Carlos Quentin, Miguel Cabrera and Justin Verlander etc. all had D potential. I knew something was wrong when Matt Stairs has an A potential. Hey at least all those All the Travis Snyder fans from last year should be happy...he is an A potential.
