Another interesting factoid had to do with playcalling. Madden NFL 10 included 330 plays. The average user used 13 of them. I'm not exactly sure how they're going to get people to explore the playbook, but some sort of simplification is clearly needed."

Madden NFL 11 Hints From EA (IGN)
IGN has posted some Madden NFL 11 hints from the EA Season Opener.
"The average game took 63 minutes in Madden NFL 10, despite the fact that players were only playing football for 17 of those minutes. EA Sports promised that they'll deliver a faster experience in Madden NFL 11 for those who want to sit down and play for a few minutes and then get up and move on to the next activity. They gave no indication of how this would be accomplished, but if I was a betting man, I'd wager that they'll be adding a "hurry up" option to the list of presentation settings similar to what we see in this year's crop of MLB titles.

Re: Madden 11 Hints From EA
Can't cut scenes be skipped already? And isn't there already a really simplified play calling system (as in choose pass, then choose the play).
I wonder, also, how much of those 13 play callers are the people that play online and call like 4 offensive plays the whole game? I really hope they don't do something stupid because of that statistic.Comment

Re: Madden 11 Hints From EA
Well, if the playbooks did not suck we would use more of them!!!!
I mean, really the time for allowing us to build our own playbooks was here 10 bleepin years ago. Madden playbooks do not reflect any NFL systems throughout the playbook. You see the same plays in every playbook, especially on D - They are all cookie cutter replications of each other for all intensive purposes.
This should be the glory years of gaming with high levels of personalization/customization - I mean seriously EA's answers to issues are not getting old - it is like beating a dead horse for ten years straight.
At this point we should already have user control options for;
the salary cap (how much it goes up each season)
franchise options (difficulty setting lock for multi-user franchise)
music/custom stadium sounds
celebrations
control layout - not everyone likes the new gen crap
working slider for RB carry distribution including the FB and 3rd RB
global substitutions
custom packages
trade difficulty slider
separate difficulty setting for CPU play calling
(ie you play on All-Pro but have the play calling for the
CPU set to ALL-MADDEN)
future draft picks in trades (as an option at least)
^ and don't tell me it can't be done cuz they did on
Dreamcast for crying out loud!!!
And there is a freakin chart easily obtainable on the
internet that will serve as a base for the value of picks
that nearly every NFL team uses!!!!
camera options
...
If I see a new feature this year and they don't fix 80 percent of the above I will not even rent the game!!!
The reason EA lost a ton of "casual gamers" is because they got cute and changed crap that already worked well! They go back and forth with game play issues because instead of tweaking a little thing to correct they completely change stuff = dumb! IMOComment

Re: Madden 11 Hints From EA
Well we finally got some piece of news about what madden team is working on and so on. This could mean they may be giving fans what they want in a ingame save option to save in the middle of the game and come back to it later. Who knows. But hopefully in the next few weeks Ian and group will take aa while from work long enough to write up a blog for us.Comment

Re: Madden 11 Hints From EA
No kidding. EA is seriously ******** if they think giving us quicker and more arcade-like gameplay is going to solve the issue.Comment

boregard and bill. i agree with both of your posts. i would also like to see us be able to have the preseason rosters to make cuts. it used to be all about realism. it seems they lost focus when they cornered the market and got the NFL rights.PSN Name - xboxxerx
You can call it being a "Homer". But as Tupac said, its California Love.

Re: Madden 11 Hints From EA
If you read the last part of the article, they state that they got all of the information from ONLINE games, so don't feel discouraged, they have more common sense than that to make assumptions........i hope.Support Louisiana College 'ball!!!!

Re: Madden NFL 11 Hints From EA (IGN)
Average player only used 13 plays is NOT because it's too complex.
What a load of garbage that is.
You only need to run the same handful (let me guess...13 or so?) of plays to be effective no matter who you play and what difficulty you set.
I don't do it myself, but it's quite obvious when MJD boasted his "FB Dive" offence after winning the Madden Bowl this year. Didn't IGN cover that too? Now they pretend that the problem is the playbooks are "too complex" ?
LOL @ IGN. What a joke.Comment

To me this is the wrong direction. Put "In game" saves in there if you can't or don't want to play longer than it will take.
I'm getting a bit weary of the patronizing tactics they continue to put out, year after year. They drop these "little hints" that make the whole development cycle seem so shallow.
Just develop the game and talk about important fixes and improvements.Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.Comment
