Now that Acceleration is as important as Speed....

Which NFL players might have really good Speed but low acceleration ratings?

I'm curious because when you look at 40 time breakdowns, most guys run between 1.5 and 2.1 in the first 10 yards. It's usually this first 10 that determines how well a guy runs.

Are there really any top speed guys that have low acceleration?

I know one. Before he died, Chris Henry was an absolute burner. He didn't have that great acceleration, it was his long strides that got him separated from the coverage.

Brandon Jacobs has low acceleration, but once he gets going can really run fast.

Better acceleration will be more important, anyone know of players with good acceleration?

          Pretty easy,

Randy Moss is the prime example.

Well, even if someone may feel the need to disagree with my opinion,

              TED GINN
Don't get me wrong, he has speed that makes catching him from behind a dream, but his extremely long strides seem to prevent him from getting up to his top speed as fast as some other players.

And this doesn't mean that i'm saying EVERY player in the NFL with long strides has slow acceleration, Ted Ginn is just one of them.

I do know, on the flip side that Wess Welker is a great example of low top end speed but high acceleration. With the new locomotion Wess is even more of a beast than he was in Madden 10. His high acceleration and agility mean that screens and short paterns are where he can explode just like real life. Breaking tackles is important, but so is just making people miss. Welker makes people miss.

Ah, stole my words. I'm glad that Wes Welker (my favorite player on the pats) will actually be effective. He's all about acceleration and getting in and out of his cuts. His explosion off the line is what separates him from other receivers. The Patriots use Welker for the short/mid-range passes and they use Moss for their mid/long-range passes. The reason why Welker doesn't go deep is because of his lack of top speed and height. Moss is the exact opposite: high top speed with a huge stature.

As a Pats fan, I'm worried how Welker will respond to his knee injury and I wonder whteher the guys at EA are gonna give him a ratings hit since torn ACLs have a habit of reducing one's agility. Welker is a pretty unique player and it was sad to see him go down like that last year.
A player with both high ACC and SPD is gonna be Chris Johnson. He's an absolute burner.

I think EA needs to redo/rethink the ratings for Madden 11. The difference between the acceleration and speed rating is less than 5 for almost all receivers, running backs and defensive backs in Madden 10. Keep in mind that EA stretched the ratings last year, so 5 points on a scale from 12-100 is a subtle difference.

Hopefully locomotion will allow Madden 11 to feature a larger variety of players in each position - aka a bigger difference between position and speed receivers and between big running backs and small running backs and hopefully others. I'm still waiting on more news on whether or not locomotion will effect OL/DL interaction to any degree - so far we've been told that locomotion only affects free movement and that is helps LBs get into position to make a play.

Devin Hester should be quick and agile and not the 99 speed IMO as a Bears fan.

In general, if you look at their legs, the longer legs should be higher speed and the shorter ones should be more agile/quick just based on physics even if they have the same 40 time.

IMO, the NFL should actually take a radar gun out and see what they can do for a top speed. I think it would be interesting.

I agree about Hester, he doesn't seem like 99 speed, but he can accelerate like no one else, the blocked field goal return for TD where he stood there for like he was gonna kneel down then just jolted out of the endzone comes to mind.

From watching Champ Bailey for a number of years I know that his acceleration is tremendous, but he's also very fast. He could of been a great safety also because he really can cover half the field.

I think Lindale White could be one. He has low Acc. but, once he gets going he can pick up some pretty good speed once he gets to the second level. I'm not saying he's elite or anything but, I think he's in that category.
