    NBA All Defensive Team

according to a mobile update from ESPN and dimemag.com, the All Defensive teams are as follows:

    first team:
    G Rajon Rondo
    G Kobe Bryant
    F LeBron James
    F Gerald Wallace
    C Dwight Howard

    second team:
    G Dwyane Wade
    G Thabo Sefolosha
    F Josh Smith
    F Anderson Varejao
    C Tim Duncan

no j-smoove on the first team? that's a bit suprising.

    thoughts?

James over Smith is absurd. I don't see how you replace Kobe with a forward. That's not really how it works. If you want to put in Sefolosha or some other guard, I get that. Wouldn't be fair to fail to mention that LA was one of the best defensive teams this year, so I understand them having a representative.

I'm pretty sure Kobe will be on the All Defense team even after he has retired.

Kobe will ALWAYS be a better defender than LeBron (especially on the ball). Just because of those weak chase down blocks, the media thinks he's some sort of God. People (myself included ) have been doing that crap for years.

            Re: NBA All Defensive Team

Born, with all NBA/D teams, positions should be flexible. LBJ can range anywhere from a 2 guard to the 4. As you can see with the 2nd team, Wade is the "PG".

Can't agree with ya Scoob. It's not even the fact that LBJ may or may not be overhyped on defense, but I don't see how Kobe will always be a better defender. That doesn't really make sense to me.

Having seen LA for the past 10 years or so, Kob used to be a superior defender. He still is a top 10 defender but I would definitely say that he's become lazy and lackadaisical.

That all too familiar "when he wants to be" still applies though, when he wants to lock you down it has a good chance of becoming reality. I just don't see him being first team this year. I would put Wade or someone on the first team if it had to be a 2 guard.

Not always (because you never know how he can improve), but my point was moreso to the people that said that Kobe should be taken off in place of Josh Smith. LBJ should be taken off before Kobe (IMO). That's all I'm saying.

                Re: NBA All Defensive Team

Basically the same "when he wants to" saying applies to James just as much as it does to Kobe.

Except LBJ is bigger stronger and faster and can defend PF's

So I'm going to have to say LBJ definitely deserves a spot as a top 5 defender. But so does Smith.

Kobe is top 10 but not top 5, and having LBJ moved to the "SG" spot should be acceptable.

This deserves a . J-Smooth should have been 1st team for sure. If I'm not mistaken, he's been snubbed from the 1st team for a couple years now.

It's like the All Star game. 2 guards, 2 forwards and a Center. Different positions have different responsibilities. 2 guards are often thought of as bad defenders because they have the toughest job. They are guarding the guy who is usually the best combination of size, mobility, shooting AND running around screens. Plus, 2 guards are almost all expected to score. It's not really fair to punish them for this.

Yeah, going by position and team defensive ranking, Kobe has a case. It's really between Kobe and Thabo. Looking at the two, Kobe has more steals, is on a better defensive team and a more successful team, carries more offensive responsibility(to say the least, lol) and has the precedent of being a great defender. So the question becomes, "was Thabo a superior enough defender to TAKE the honor from Kobe?"

I'm not answering that question, just trying to provide some perspective. Another big advantage for Kobe is that he doesn't have to guard himself, lol. Outside of Dwyane Wade, Kobe is winning that matchup on both sides of the floor 75 out of 80 times.

Also, he is playing with a far inferior defensive PG, and has the opportunity and burden to display defensive versatility by guarding PGs.

That's just not right. Thabo deserves a top 15 ranking, but top 10 is stretching it.

In my eyes, Wade has the edge.
