    Back in the Game....help me catch up

    So for reasons I won't get into here, I basically took a break from all gaming in early 2009 (as in I sold my 360 and all my games, and essentially haven't played any games, read about any games, followed any gaming news or anything since then).

    Have some more free time now and I'm ready to dig back in. Ordered a PS3 which should arrive early next week. Assume I know basically nothing about any games out now or any games that have come out since early 2009 (which, basically, is true).

    What games am I picking up to start? Core PS3 essentials I've missed? I figure I'll get around 5 to 8 games to begin with. Any advice is appreciated.

      Dead Space (88)
      BioShock (94)
      Demon's Souls (90)
      Killzone 2 (91)
      God of War III (93)
      Uncharted 2 (96)
      Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (88)
      Batman: Arkham Asylum (91)
      Assassin's Creed II (91)

      Coming on May 18: Red Dead Redemption

          Great PS3 exclusives...
          1. God of War 3
          2. Uncharted 2
          3. Heavy Rain
          great games available on both consoles...
          1. Bioshock 1 and/or 2
          2. Assassin's Creed 2
          3, Batman: Arkham Asylum
          Just started Dead Space, not my favorite but it's decent so far... definitely worth the 10 dollars i payed for it.
          If you are into multiplayer... campaigns left a lot to be desired
          1. Modern Warfare 2
          2. Killzone 2
          3. Battlefield Bad Company 2

                  Fighting: Blazblue for 2D and Tekken 6 for 3D.

                  RPG: Dragon Age Origins,Resonance of Fate or Valkyria Chronicles.

                  Shooter: Saint's Row 2 is a must have and I guess Ghostbusters would go here as well. Also there's the suprisingly good 50 Cent Blood on the Sand and it's only $10 in most places now.

                  Action: Assassin's Creed II,Arkham Asylum,Yakuza 3 and God of War III though I suggest renting that one as it doesn't last long especially in comparison to those other 3 games. I'd love to add in Bayonetta but the PS3 version is supposedly quite sub-par. Prototype also worth a rent.

                  Racing: DiRT 2,Pure or wait a few weeks for Split/Second.

                  Music: Singstar ABBA comes highly recommended by people from Sweden.

                  Get Heavy Rain and Mirror's Edge as well though I don't know where those would fit.

                  Earlier PS3 stuff you missed: Folklore,MGS 4 and Heavenly Sword.

                      uncharted 2 is a slam dunk. with the multiplayer along with the fantastic story mode you get a tremendous bang for your buck. this game is still in heavy rotation for me.

                      I'm enjoying valkyria chronicles as well (SRPG).

                              I swear this game always gets overlooked and it's easily one of my all time favorites and definitely one of the PS3's best.
