    Staff affects players

Using the default out of the box rosters - I am deep in my Royals franchise, playing all the games that only Luke Hochevar starts. I made some great trades and free agent singings so far so my Royals are jacked.

    96 Pitching, 81 Batting, 90 Overall currently (Previously 87 Pitching, 81 Batting, 87 Overall)

    Pitching Rotation:
    Zack Greinke (97 OVR)
    Scott Baker (86 OVR)
    Erik Bedard (84 OVR)
    Jered Weaver (84)
Luke Hochevar (70) - user control so he pitches well

    Bullpen:
    CP: Joakim Soria (89)
SU: Marmol from the Cubs (83 OVR)
a bunch of decent MRs and LRs that range from 64-71 in OVR

I have 35.97 million to still spend, but I sent Farnsworth to AAA cause I needed another Catcher (Jacob Jackson 66 OVR) in the bench and I dropped to 25.37 million.

    Anyway...
    Batting Lineup:
    LF Scott Podsednik (83 OVR)
    SS Cristian Guzman (78 OVR)
    1B Billy Butler (82 OVR)
    RF Jonny Gomes (83 OVR)
    C Matt Wieters (80 OVR)
    CF Rick Ankiel (81? OVR)
    DH Alberto Callaspo (78 OVR)
    2B Orlando Hudson (83 OVR)
    3B Willie Bloomquist (77 OVR)

now, you see there is no way the Royals should be 10-19! Zack Greinke has a 6.06 ERA with a 1-5 record. It is just a downfall for these Royals! I am pitching good with Luke Hochevar. 3-1 record, 2.87 ERA, had 12 Ks against the Rangers.

I looked at the staff, and they are terrible. Trey Hillman 33 motivation? and the Pitching Coach is horrible! I cannot fire these guys, they have long term 5 year contracts except for Hillman who has 1 year remaining.

So I have to say and I am convinced staff affects player performance.

AAA and AA managers are sweet though

Just fired the Batting Coach who had a 5 year contract and hired a new one, and now I am winning some games. 18-21 record now.

That could explain why St. Louis are doing so terrible in my franchise.

Don't get it. Are the Cards coaching staff underrated? Because La Russa and Dave Duncan are widely considered among the best ever at their respective positions (manager and pitching coach).

You are right, they are the best ever. STL has a great hitting coach also. goh is a Cubs fan

Not at all. I'm a Red Sox and Giants fan.

The Cards are 8-24 and dead last in the NL in my franchise. Wainwright has a 6.05 ERA and is 1-6,they also have a prospect relief pitcher that's been in 19 games with a 7.16 ERA and 3 losses. Carpenter is 2-1 in 7 games with a 3.67 ERA so it's not all bad. Pujols has 5 RBI,2 HR and is hitting .266 in 18 games. He must've been injured at some point I guess.

I really think the main cause of overinflated ERAs is the lack of errors in this game, even when simulated

How would the lack of errors affect the ERA? If errors are added into the game, more runs would score, but they would be unearned. It's not like taking out errors turns unearned runs into earned runs. If anything, it allows more outs to be made, and pitchers go deeper into the game, but that shouldn't affect their ERA's at all.

Also, ERA numbers are way off in this game. There are a lot of times in my player when I look at the box score at the end of the game and there are 3 or 4 unearned runs even though there are no errors.

Yeah, the impact of errors would be negated. Runs would be higher, but they theoretically would all be unearned runs, which would mean that there would be absolutely no impact to ERA.

I really cant believe people still dont know this lol.
The stat sim engine in this game has been completly screwed up since 2k8(as far as i know could be longer but that was the first i played).Pitchers ERAs wins losses IP Ks BBs dont not work from their ratings at all,and seem to be given almost random numbers every year, alot of this based off the fact that managers will not pull their pitchers until they give up 6-7 runs in a single ining. So when a game is played(either started or simmed) the pitcher can get lit up in the 5th inning for 4 runs and had already given up 3 or 4 in prior inings, and be at 130 pitch count, and the manager will leave him in.This is from poor AI mangement and a bug in the energy/stamina for pitchers. This also affect My Player starting pitchers.
