Broken sticks
No this thread is not about Viagra (sorry couldn't resist). What it is about however, is this being a hockey game and there not being any broken sticks what so ever. You see at least 3-5 a game in the NHL. Baseball games have broken bats, there is no excuse for the lack of broken sticks in NHL games. In OTP / EASHL it would work like this, if your stick breaks you would have to skate past your bench, where there would be flashing red circles and you would be givien a new stick. Or one of your team mates could give you theres, ie. FW giving D there stick, D giving G there stick. I would also like to see goalies lose their stick on occasion. I would also like to see goalie collision detection.

Re: Broken sticks
The reason they have provided (and it's a solid one) is that adding broken sticks just isn't a feature worth having, because as far as game play goes, it takes away more than it adds.
Having broken sticks means they would have to code not only player animations with a stick, but also player animations without one.
If they forced you to the bench, then that would be forcibly taking the player out of the play, which is something they try to avoid. If they left the option up to you, then they would have to re-animate things for hitting, blocking, and just moving in general.
Basically, it was said that the con's outweighed the pro's as far as adding the feature.
I have to agree.
As much as i would like the feature, it just seems like it would be a waste of time that could be better spent else where. -
Re: Broken sticks
i agree totally with everything you say
as well as the net needs to come off its mournings again and you should be able to collide with the goalie and possible hurt him. and goal review they replay all the goals to see if the net came off before it went in or if the re direct stick was to high or if it went in after the whistle was blown or if it went in before the time expired.
it will add drama to a game and give a perfect chance to add cutscenes and real time broadcasting during reviews
another addition would be when your skaters are off sides there should be times when it is not called human error refs do not call every off side as well as when they do blow the whistle please lets your skaters still skate as if they are just slowing down until you go to the face off transition. it kind of takes away from the tv presentation feel when you automatically go to the face offComment

Re: Broken sticks
The animation issue is simple: Make the stick an addon that is either visible or not visible. All animations look the same.
Besides, the animations need work as it is. Who checks like these guys? Last time I took my stick chest level and pushed another player was in squirt league.Comment

Re: Broken sticks
The icing calls are way too strict at times as well. You can be like 1 foot behind the red line and get called for icing. When in fact real ref usually will give you about a 3-5 foot gract in terms of icing. I have also seen other time a puck being shot all the way down ice and it not being called, and no it's not on the PK.Comment

Re: Broken sticks
I think they need to clean up the animations and make one timers and stuff work like the user wants before they add another way your guy can screw up a shot. There's already stuff like your guy freezing when you want to shoot a loose puck. Last thing I want is another variable in the mix.Comment

Re: Broken sticks
Sticks don't even have collision physics in this game aside from the stick lift. Lets start there so people can't deke through sprawled out players, shoot through someones leg.http://dropthepuck.blogspot.com/

Re: Broken sticks
this game is all about online play ,screwing up things in real hockey they do screw up alot of things
i would rather the game be about authenticity rather than how it will slow down or make the game something blah blah.
in the nhl 80 percent of the goals that go in the net probably count, do not know the actual statistic if it is kept at all but in nhl 10 100 percent of the goals count. heck the game does not even have the right amount of refs
go figure. the face off system is set to if you win it goes right too you have you ever watched a hockey game who ever wins it, the battle happens after the initall fight for it it hardly goes right to a person in this game you get control of it every time. people who complain about things like this is because they love the arcade way it plays now.
4 years later the goalies still have the same masks and do not have there own routines or individual moves or very few goalie animation saves by now there should be tons of different ones, and the cutscenes they do use to show them off displays every goalie the same size you can not tell the difference between a 5-10 and a 6-3 goalie. do you see that as being real ?Comment

Re: Broken sticks
This game is probably played 75% offline. Make a good gameplay experience and the online will improve as a result.http://dropthepuck.blogspot.com/

Re: Broken sticks
...like it'd be some new revelation if we were to see it.
"What, these sticks break??? Oh...my...word."
...that said, I also agree it would be a monumental waste of time to incorperate.
If you think otherwise, just imagine performing a cross crease one timer with 5 seconds left while trying to tie the game, only for the stick to snap in half. Imagine the meltage...
now, if were possible to turn it off, maybe then...
eh...nah, still a huge waste of time. lolLast edited by onlybygrace; 05-18-2010, 09:59 PM.Comment

I agree. I still think the Stick companies are the bigger reason. They have broken bats in baseball games.Comment

Re: Broken sticks
This is the reason you don't see it in the game. The way around that would be to have players lose their sticks instead.Comment

Re: Broken sticks
They could have a slider for broken stick frequency or something like that. I don't see it being any kind of game breaker online or offline IF properly implemented. But that's a big IF. Nevertheless, they would need to polish it up way better then Madden did with Pro-Tak. Before fully emersing it into the game.Comment

Re: Broken sticks
This has to be in the game. Its a major part of gameplay. They should just put generic sticks in the game if the companies are gonna whine about it. How many broken sticks do you see in the playoffs so far?? I bet its an average of about 3 per game.
Both broken sticks and too many men on the ice penalties.
For those of us that watched the '10 playoffs, we all know how many goals resulted in broken sticks and too many men on the ice penalties.
Both of these must be implimented in NHL '11Comment
