Does sending young players down to the minors help?
I'm really struggling to hit with Jason Heyward. Through 100 AB's he's hitting .162 with 3 HR and 5 RBI but all of those homers came early. I'm wondering if I should send him to AAA for a week and then call him back up.

Re: Does sending young players down to the minors help?
I put David Freese down there after he came off an injury. He was hitting around .200 when he went down. He was there for about a month, called him back up and he ended the season hitting .243.
Now whether it works or this was a fluke, I don't know, but thats my only experience of sending a guy down to work out the kinks.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Have you tried moving him in your line up? Sometimes that works, try swapping him down a spot.PSN - miacanes12Comment

Re: Does sending young players down to the minors help?
Is he struggling against both leftys and rightys? I was struggling with Brandon Wood but he was doing decent against right handers(.260) but an auto out against leftys(.085). He's hitting .315 after being in a platoon for the past month and a half. :wink:Comment

Yeah I moved him down to 7th, still can't get anything going with him. He's struggling vs everyone, I also think I'm pressing when he comes up to the plate because I want to get a hit with him so bad. He's hitting it hard though but it's right at people. I just can't buy a hit with him.Comment

Re: Does sending young players down to the minors help?
I would send him down. With some of my young guys, like Cahill, I found that when they have the cold symbol, it is easier for them to come out of it in the minors (maybe because I am not the one playing with him). I guess you have to think of it like what you would do in real life if your stud prospect is really struggling. You may really like the player, but you also need to do what is best for your team. I hate Jack Cust, and yet I sent down Rosales, who I like, because one was batting 270 with power and the other was batting 220 with no power and making an error every game he played in.Comment

Re: Does sending young players down to the minors help?
I've only had one experience with sending a struggling player down to the minors in my (now defunct) Franchise.
I had CF Dexter Fowler struggling to hit .200 in the Majors, I sent him down to AAA.. where he hit a whopping .210. I eventually sent him all the way down to AA, and he didn't fare much better there, hitting .208 with 1 HR and 7 RBI.
The strangest thing about it was, by that point in my franchise, Dexter had developed some pretty impressive contact/power attributes.
It was strange, and insanely frustrating.Comment

Re: Does sending young players down to the minors help?
i've always had good experience with sending pitchers up and down but havent done it much with non bench players on the hitting side.
what i have wondered is how it affects guys to be in hiA. do yall put your youngest guys there or how do u use it? i dont like to put guys there that i like cause im scared, since they dont have actual games, that they might not advance statwiseComment

I've tried this with the Pirates( don't ask me why I was playing with them. lol). Lastings was struggling hitting .167 to start the season, I sent him down to the minors for a 2 week stint and when he came back up, he was hitting .342 with 7hr and 22 rbi's so I know this really does work.Oakland Athletics/Phillies

Re: Does sending young players down to the minors help?
Well I did something as minor as upping the pitch speed and he hit 2 homeruns. Maybe he's coming out of it.
I've been playing with pitch speed at -5 but I put it back and default and had a lot of success. I wonder if that's been my problem?Comment

Re: Does sending young players down to the minors help?
Grady Sizemore was hitting .180 -.200 for all of april and may. I moved him from #2 to #7 and 8 in the lineup. I still couldnt get hits. I had to squeeze out some bunt singles just to make it worth while to have him in there.
June came and I started to improve with him. Now at the AS break he is up to .292 with 7 HR and 38 RBI.
I keep him in the 7 or 8 spot. Everytime i moved him up to 1 or 2 he had horrible games.
Asdrubal Cabrera is another on. One of the best rated hitters on my team he is hitting .220 still. I cant get him going
Peralta has been a hitting machine for me. thing is though, i noticed that anytime he has someone in scoring position that he gets out. So i moved him up to #2 where i could use his OBP to give my RBI guys a chance to bring him in
my point is that u have to try somthing to make him be productive. moving him down where u have no expectation for him might be a good start. Its probably u too, trying to hard to get a hit with him. Dont try and get hits, try and swing at good pitches and make good ABComment
