Are we just a year away from canned animations being a thing of the past? -

The upgrade is complete, but you've probably noticed the forums are only showing posts up to about April 8. Posts made after that are still in the process of being moved over, and that should take another week or two. Feel free to start a new thread.
The site might feel a little slow while work continues. Engineers are staying on it through the night to get things moving faster again. Thanks for your patience.

I expect it in Madden 12 at least maybe NCAA 13. It makes sense that the smaller game would try new things out. I know NHL plays better but it sells less copies than Madden.

I really hope its next year, but I would be surprised as well.
It does look like the sports gaming industry is finally moving away from canned animations though. It reminds me of when we moved from sprites to polygonal players. This is the next evolution in sports gaming IMO.

I'm pretty sure its on the way. Backbreaker spearheaded the movement, now NHL has picked it up. I'll give Madden/NCAA another year or two.
As stated, its the next sports game evolution. It'll be the norm here shortly.
While we hope this happens I will state, quite emphatically, that they better not put it in Madden in say, 2011 {Madden 12} and wait a year before adding it to NCAA.
The move to the new physics engine will be this September when NHL releases... that gives the Madden/NCAA teams plenty of time to work together so that both games have it in at the same time, be it in 2011 or 2012.

They better. The sooner the better. Its getting to a point of me feeling embarrassed for these games to have animation based movement.
I agree that it will be as big as moving from 2D sprites to 3D polygons. Revolutionary. That big. And that much necessary if they want these games to be taken seriously in a few years.

I'm really looking forward to seeing how this new physics engine works out in the NHL game.
Hopefully it's a huge hit, and will be added to Ncaa/Madden ASAP.
This will probably determine it. If it gets NHL 11 some great reviews that love the physics I believe we will see it in next year. I think locomotion is just the beginning of it. I'm really excited about it in NHL this year.
