Does MJ Mean Superstars Will Play Like Superstars?

Having the greatest superstar to ever play in the NBA means AI superstars will play like superstars, right? They'll look for their shots, their teams will look for them, they'll be unstoppable at times in pressure situations. You'll be scratching your head wondering how to stop them.

Because it's not in the game as of 2K10. The factor that stopped my playing an offline association was that in game after game, close games or blowouts, the superstars on opposing teams never took control.

For example in a 7 game finals series against the Lakers Kobe averaged 19 PPG. His best game was 22 points. He never took more than 15 shots.

I know people say superstars sometimes have big games against them. Sure, if you guard the superstar he'll often score off your bad defense. But guard a different player, let your AI guard the superstar, he's a non factor.

Will this change in 2011?

You sure?....I don't play much vs the CPU. But recently I've been playing NBA Today playoff games. And Kobe always goes in.

i think he's playing on rookie or pro. I play on Hall of Fame and Kobe takes over.

Don't agree with OP. Superstars seem to always show up and try to take over...especially when they get hot.

I play on pro w/ Pared's tweaks and some of my own tweaks, and I definitely have guys go off on me. (pause)

I play an offline fantasy draft assoc w/ GSW, and I'm 1-3 against Denver b/c they have Kobe and Paul Pierce and one of either always goes for 30 against me.

One game CB4 just dominated - in the paint, mid range, everything was going in for him.

The stars definitely do play up to billing, and it doesn't seem cheap at all most of the time IMO.

I play HOF, and have tried many different slider sets and rosters.

I expect that most of the people who have superstars "go off" against them don't play locked as one player. I play locked, and whether it's on a Center, SF (generally LeBron) or SG, none of the other teams' superstars go off against my team.

I'd like to know exactly what settings, sliders, and rosters people are using when they see big games from opposing superstars.

I've tried playing unlocked, personally guarding the superstar (they tend to score more, but I can shut them down no matter who I'm controlling to guard them,) double teaming, purposely working not to try extra measures to stop them.

Mo Williams on the Cavs generally takes at least twice as many shots as LeBron. Even CPU v CPU by the end of the game I'm screaming at LeBron to shoot rather than pass. Kobe hardly shoots against me, and in fact hardly touches the ball.

I wish there were someone in Houston saying superstars play like superstars, so I could see what they do and show them what I do to figure out if there's some setting, roster, or something that would change it.

Well like I said, I'm playing offline assoc which I did a fantasy draft with. Pro difficulty, 12 min qrts, default rosters (were updated w/ NBA today when I started a few months ago). I play all on ball d. And here are some of the numbers for stars against me.

Kobe: 28 pts, 13-21 FG, 1-4 3pt
Joe Johnson: 27 pts, 13-19 FG, 1-3 3pt
CB4: 35pts, 12 rebs, 14-23 FG
Ginobili: 32 pts, 12-22 FG
Melo: 28pts, 13-24 FG
Durant: 29pts, 13-23, 2-6 3pt

And I definitely sense that they take over in the 4th quarter. Like I said, I use Pared's tweaks along w/ my own tweaks to fit my game, but to each his own. But Pared's a good starting place IMO.

One issue is the definition of "going off" or "taking over" the game.

Take Durant for example. The example given was a 29 point game. That's below his season average for 2009. He scored 30 or more points 49 out of 82 games, that's 65% of the time. He scored 40 or more points 8 games, about 10% of the time.

While 29 is a good performance and includes taking over in some parts of the game, if that's his most memorable superstar performance game then superstars aren't playing like superstars.

Play his team 10x. Relate the stats - his biggest game, his average points, average shots. Do it for Kobe, LeBron, Wade, and others.

Kobe's superstar performance was 28 points? That's one over his 2009 season average. Kobe scored 30 or more points 29 times in 2009, that's 35% of the regular season games. In the playoffs he's scored 30 or more 12 out of 17 games - about 71% of the games. I've gone through 7 game series against the Lakers where he never reaches 25 points, much less 30, and that's without focusing on defending him.

I created a 99 in every category scorer superstar SG on the Bulls. In CPU v CPU play, multiple best of 7 series against Lakers, Cavs, Celtics, Heat - he scored 45 once (I was amazed) but averaged under 20 points per game.

The numbers were based off last year. He wasn't as potent last year. He went off for more than 40 pts. only 3 times.

And their ratings dictate success, not how frequent they attempt to score. Tendencies are equally as important.

To be clear, I wasn't saying those were 'superstar performances' for those guys, but at the same time guys shouldn't score 40 pts every game. Even Kobe and LeBron have off nights. If these guys scored 40 or even 35 every time out, then people would be complaining about them being unstoppable. I was simply pointing out some of their performances against my team in Assoc mode. It's unrealistic to thing those guys should be unstoppable and score 40 every time out, but at the same time you can have someone like Bosh get hot and go off on me. It's a fair balance, I think, at least w/ the slider set I play with.

Play with your tendency sliders and see if that helps. Also it's been mentioned in a thread before that sometimes the 'play style' affects the way guys perform as well.

I'm 50/50 with this. Some games the guard Superstar will go off and sometimes the guard Superstar will not look to be aggressive. Also playbooks might be a factor too.

I too play only one position on defense, I'm always the PG on defense and I let my cpu teammates play the other 4 positions. It sometimes disappointing to see Lebron not attacking my team but it could be b/c he is having an off-night...
