I need some defensive help, people that use goal line running formation

so whats the best defese to use to stop the goal line running in the middle of the field. like for example if a guy uses the cowboys and picks a goal line run..and just uses the speed of jones to get to the outside. it seems like i have a hard time stopping that play cause my defenders get blocked.

also whats the best goal line defense actually at the goalline? to stop that same play.

    thanks

Pick goaline D and just control the safty and disrupt the play....Same goes for actually on the goaline....What i used to do anyway...But that was all the way back in October the last time i played so who knows if any new cheddar has emerged.

4-6 show blitz and control the deep saftey to contain anything that breaks to the outside is usually pretty effective. I actually played a guy that was using the Cowboys and this formation earlier. I just ran that cover 2 out of this and showed blitz every time. he did manage to get into my territory every time he had the ball but only ended up getting one t.d. the key is to not get frustrated because they are gonna gain good yardage more often than not. you gotta make tackles and hope that you get a few plays in a row that your d-line gets penetration.

Re: I need some defensive help, people that use goal line running formation

Sounds like they are running the Off Tackle/Strong Toss offense on you. Both plays are tough to stop. Think the three keys of football:

        Personnel, Position, Tempo.

For this one, position and personnel are the only battles you need to win. To take away the outside, you need to contain the edge on the side you expect the runs. Locate some plays with the contain assignments (black arrow). You'll also need to keep a player in the trouble area. In this case, assign a player to the flat (light blue).

If you play Man, your DB's are going to move inside, taking themselves out of the play. Man align them so they move back outside, or audible to a Cover 2.

If the ball is outside, your defensive line should attack outside. Stunt your defensive line outside (LB/L1 + Up on Right Stick) or if you know which side the ball is going, stunt the hole line (LB/L1 + Left/Right on Right Stick).

If you need to send a linebacker play side, blitz him with (RB/R1 + Left/Right on Right stick). This gets more penetration on the offensive side of the backfield, putting you in a better position to disrupt the runner's speed advantage.

Blitz a safety... Again, you have to know the play side for this to work. You don't really have to blitz a safety, per se, on runs to the outside could just send him to the flat, and it acts as a run blitz directly outside the hashes. If you do bring the safety in the box, make sure he's at least 7 yards off the line of scrimmage at least 3 yards outside the hashes... From that range you can still disguise what you're doing while giving your safety a head of steam when he arrives at the tackle point.

The mental key is learning to figure out which side your opponent is running, then manipulate your defense accordingly. ANY of these techniques will help, but you may need to mix and match them to get the best fit for your individual opponent. Be wary, some guys are better running in traffic than others. Skilled players will patiently wait out an onslaught if they have enough blockers. So you may have to get your user skills up...

If you play the safety spot... Play the safety AWAY from where you expect the play to go. If you're wrong, you may have to make the play, but if you're right, you may not have to do much. But again, this relies on how well you can pick a side.

Look for tosses to the wide side, and off tackles to the short side.

If you're on the D-line, shoot the gaps of the pulling guards and you'll chase the back and hit him as he cuts back (assuming you contain him).

Lots of ways to stop it... Hope this helps you figure out what works best for you.

cover 2, slant the DL to the strong side, spread the LBs.

Poons who do this, eventually will playaction and bail out to a flat route...pick 6 time.

Try Nickel linebacker QB contain, 4-6 bear linebacker spy, or even DE contain will work.

Depends on WHEN you need someone in the flats... If the pass is thrown later to the flats, you need someone to arrive late to the flats so they focus on the receiver in the flats AS they arrive.

If your flat defender is in the flats too early, there's a good chance he will slide too far inside to defend a pass near the sidelines, especially when the QB rolls his direction or his area is flooded with a deeper receiver...

                    Hope this helps.

3/4 Normal SS Blitz, show Blitz (thats 9 in the box) Blitzing SS should be on the strong side, contain weak side DE, I use this for the inside runs.

3/4 Solid SS Blitz same set up, this is good for the O/T runs.

You will notice the MLB's are lined up more to the outside in the Solid formation while the Normal formation has them more to the inside.

All you have to do is adjust these plays once they start to use play action, switch to a cover 2 or 1 and start making adjustments.

Also the flats will be open do to the poor AI Defenders in Man coverage or flat blue zones, I will just control a LB or DE and cover those my self.

                        Good luck.

Im glad you posted this question stealth but not because Im going to offer any strategic advise. It's because this question goes straight to the heart of what I have been saying about Madden strategy and NFL strategy having a disconnect.

From reading this and other posts you have made on this thread, I would think you have already tried actually using "goaline" defense to stop this "goaline" offense. If NFL strategy worked properly in Madden, that would be enough to stop what you know is coming and force your opponent to do something different. There is NO way in the real NFL that a defense is almost certain that an offense is going to run out of a goaline formation and they not limit the success of that run, MOST of the time. It is the uncertainty of that the offense might run or pass that adds to real NFL strategy.

If a NFL defense KNEW a 100% that a team was running out of a goaline offensive formation, like with some gamers in Madden, a goaline defensive formation with the DL shifting to clog the middle,LBs blitzing the gaps and CBs coming up to guard against bouncing it outside, would stop this.

It's a shame when a game, allegedly based on NFL football, doesnt allow gamers to succeed or fail based on proper NFL strategy. Especially considering Ian was quoted saying that he wanted a football coach, that's playing Madden for the first time, to be able to beat someone that plays Madden all the time or something like that.

Well, so much for that happening.

I totally agree with you. i play a guy that uses the goal like run for 2-3 yards so effectively it makes you never want to play the game again. i've tried several different combinations. and i can stop him at times..but he will no huddle it again and again...and eventually just get in..where as you stated...i do agree if i call a goal line run stopping defense it should make it a lot harder but my cpu guys are taking the wrong angles and he just gets in.
