Great Vid on the Malzahn Spread
Good stuff as far as breaking down how the offense works, etc.

Re: Great Vid on the Malzahn Spread
Malzahn is a good coordinator. I wish he was still at Tulsa.
If Auburn keeps bringing in good recruiting classes and plays the great defense they have been accustomed too, they could quickly become a national power.
Malzahn's offense isn't a gimmicky dink and dunk all pass play offense. It's actually pretty balanced and at times pretty physical. At Tulsa, it changed along with the strengths of the players.
Auburn was 16th in the nation in total offense last year. That's pretty good considering they were in the first year of a new system and played in the SEC.
I knew you SEC folk would enjoy some offense for a change!Last edited by BigDofBA; 06-22-2010, 11:07 AM.***My Teams***

Re: Great Vid on the Malzahn Spread
my question is always...i see it work on saturdays but will it be in the game for Auburn or will we get a generic spread offense. some jet sweeps and option reads. i don't know maybe it's not on the level with an "air raid" as that offense has been around for a decade +."Accept victory and defeat in equanimity"Comment

I like Malzahn and his offense despite my hatred for Chizik. I think his offense his highly effective and always fun to watch.
The style of coordinators like Malzahn and Tom Herman at Iowa State always makes for some excitement.Comment

Old school option offense.. make the defense assignment sound.. if one man screws up the entire defense is screwed.. gotta love it. Makes all the defenders responsible..Comment

Re: Great Vid on the Malzahn Spread
I love it.
The scary thing is that we had a Top 20 offense right out of the gates with about as "unathletic" of a QB as you can get with Chris Todd.
With a guy like Cameron Newton, who is 6'6" 250 pounds (lean!) with 4.5ish speed, the QB read option and QB/RB option become much more viable threats to the defense.
It has to be maddening to be a DC trying to stop an offense with so many moving parts at all times.
Your defense must be absolutely disciplined and react very quickly to stop them, which is asking a lot of 18-21 year olds.
Even a split second of going in the wrong direction or "freezing" because you are unsure who has the ball can lead to big plays.
It's a simple philosophy but very difficult to stop if run properly.
This is why Malzahn has had rocket ship type success right out of the gates. He's had one of the best offenses in the nation in every year of his very brief stint in the college game.AUBURN TIGERS

I know one thing...Alabama better not get burned again this season on a reverse. I was so pissed on that play. It looked simple to stop but we made one little error in assignment and boom, touchdown. And watching from the upper deck at JHS made it worse as I saw it unfold.Twitter

Re: Great Vid on the Malzahn Spread
That's a pretty scary offense. It'll be interesting to see how Malzahn develops it with the talent he'll be able to get at Auburn compared to Tulsa and how the defensive minds of the SEC work to defend it the next few yearsComment
